As PDP faithful across the country continue to showcase and advance reasons for the re-election of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, the party’s chapter chairman for Oron Local Government, Elder Efiong Efiong Bassey has emphasized the need for all and sundry to support the clarion call for Mr President to run for the second time.
According to the Oron PDP boss, “the President Goodluck Jonathan’s second term request by the party should also be totally and faithfully supported by the masses and indeed the good people of this country and even those in the Diaspora”.
Elder Efiong Efiong Bassey who was speaking with journalists in an interview in Oron soon after the Anniversary Service to mark the country’s 54th Independence Celebrations posited that President Jonathan’s second term clamor transcends party’s lines, adding that even other political parties should see the utmost need to endorse President Jonathan for his excellent performance and creditable disposition in tackling the country’s enormous tasks.
The ordained Elder of the Apostolic Church who argued that the country needed more prayers now than ever before, he maintained that though the upheavals were challenging and daunting, the tact and zeal with which Mr President has increasingly put in to put the country the right path to victory must be commended and appreciated by all irrespective of political affiliations.
Elder Bassey revealed that even in the seeming precarious situation now causing some distractions, he was quite optimistic that Nigeria will come out a stronger, virile and united nation where the detractors would repentantly come out of the evil enclaves to join hands in the ultimate uplift.
On the performance of Chief Godswill Akpabio in the last seven years, the Oron PDP boss gave kudos to the governor particularly in the uncommon transformation drive and human disposition in the spread of amenities to the nooks and crannies of the state.
Elder Bassey however appealed to the governor to look into the nagging issue of dilapidated portion of Oron road in the heart of Oron town, lamenting that the severed road by ravaging erosion has caused the commercial and economic life of Oron dwellers and visiting commuters’ untold hardship.
In an answer to a reporter’s question, Elder Efiong Efiong Bassey opined that if effective and constant patrol of Oron waterways by both the naval and marine police authorities could be operationally backed up with adequate gun boats, the nefarious activities of sea pirates and the alleged molestation of water transporters of sea foods and beach market women who have recently been daily harassed would be stopped forthwith.
