Zoning in Mkpat Enin is sacrosanct Zoning in Mkpat Enin is sacrosanct

Stakeholders in   Mkpat Enin LGA  have warned the PDP State Chairman, Obong Paul Ekpo to desist from attempting to impose the Council Chairman, Mr. Ephraim Akpan on the people as the next House of Assembly member come 2015.

They made this known after a meeting held recently in Mkpat Enin to ascertain the LG position concerning the forthcoming House of Assembly primaries.

Speaking on behalf of the Party, the Deputy Chapter Chairman, Chief Asuquo Enang and the Chapter Secretary, Akparawa Umoren Umoren said they are in support of the zoning of the AKHA position to Ikpa Ibom Clan. They maintained that zoning is going to be a necessary requisite in the choice of who represents Mkpat Enin in the House of Assembly.

They posited in their separate remarks that the Party will do the needful so that all strata of the Local Government are given equal opportunity to represent the people.

The Paramount Ruler of Mkpat Enin LGA, HRH, Akpan Akpan Ekpene speaking from a position of peace, unity and cordiality insisted that since all other three Clans have had their chance, that Ikpa Ibom should be allowed to produce the next House of Assembly member. He frowned very seriously over the speculations that the Council Chairman, Mr. Ephraim Akpan is banking on the State PDP Chairman’s influence to usurp the age long zoning arrangement of the area to favour himself.

He insisted that Mkpat Enin people should not be taken for a ride by Mr. Paul Ekpo or any other person acting on whatever capacity.

The royal father warned in strong terms that Mkpat Enin monarchs will rise against any form of crisis that is capable of disrupting the peace and tranquility being enjoyed in the area. He however called on aspirants to go about their consultations peacefully and shun all acts of violence.

Stakeholders who spoke insisted that zoning in Mkpat Enin is sacrosanct and that nobody no matter how highly placed can change the position of Mkpat Enin people. They affirmed that since zoning is observed at the State level, the Party Chair, Obong Paul Ekpo is bound to obey and observe it intoto.

A former Chapter Chairman of Mkpat Enin PDP, Chief Friday Udo Ayara maintained that it is the turn of Ikpa Ibom Clan to produce a member for MkpatEnin State Constituency come 2015.

Friday Ayara categorically warned the State Party Chairman to desist from his planned attempt at imposing Ephraim Akpan who is from Ibiaku Clan as the only aspirant contesting outside Ikpa Ibom Clan. He advised Paul Ekpo that he is not from Mkpat Enin and that he should leave Mkpat Enin politics for Mkpat Enin people. He stressed that anything outside that would be viewed as an insult on the good people of Mkpat Enin.

He further advised Mr. Ephraim Akpan, the Council Chairman whom he described as a product and beneficiary of zoning in the last Chairmanship election to withdraw from the race for the interest of peace.
Others who spoke were Barr Udobong Ekpo, Barr Mbom Ekpo Udom Akpabio, Chief Cletus Okon, amongst others. They all uphold the argument in favour of zoning.
