It was a joyous and memorable day when The Bridge Media Investment Services Limited, conferred a meritorious Award ‘EPITOME OF GRASSROOTS DEVELOPMENT AWARD’ on the Executive Chairman, Mkpat Enin Local Government, Hon. Ephraim Akpan, in recognition of his magical development strides in the State.

The award presentation ceremony which was held over the weekend at the Eemjm Hotels and Suite, Uyo, was part of the events marking the 7th anniversary of its premier series; The Bridge TV.
Presenting the award to the council boss, the Chairman/CEO, The Bridge Media, Mr Itoro Columba, said the recipient got the award because of his unique traits among his contemporaries in the State by significantly touching the lives of his people.

According to the Bridge boss, a panel of ably-qualified judges set up by his corporation had conducted independent and impartial assessment of meaningful and physical projects using practicable parameters in comparing many local governments on performance spectrum in the 31 Local Government Areas before Hon. Ephraim Akpan’s choice.


Some of the consummate achievements of the Mkpat Enin council boss which stood him out as outlined by the award donor include: construction of the gigantic Oil and Gas industry at Nya-Odiong, consisting; Administrative buildings, Staff quarters, Hostels, ICT Centre, Classrooms, Pipeline welding workshop for over 70 welders simultaneously, 4 open workshops, Canteen, recreational facilities, landscaping, etc.

Others include: training of 40 youths of Mkpat Enin in the oil and gas with full tuition, upkeep allowance and procurement of materials for one year, construction of 16 ongoing solar powered boreholes, design, construction and equipping of Diagnostic laboratory in Mkpat Enin, construction of Minya-Ikot Aba-Ikot Akpaden 23.5m by 7.5m bridge, rehabilitation of 210 market stalls in Ukam market with long span roof, free eye surgery and donation of free eye glasses to over 120 Mkpat Enin indigenes and free surgical operations for over 460 others, amongst over 48 great feats of the Ephraim Akpan led administration.

While describing Hon Akpan as a role model to upcoming politicians, Mr Columba stressed that the award will motivate other council chairmen to tighten their belts in prompt service delivery to the electorate.
In his remark, the Chairman, Hon Ephraim Akpan, said the award came to him as surprise, adding that he was doing everything in the interest of his people and never expected any reward from anybody.

He dedicated the award to the State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio for the rare privileged to serve his people as well as providing a good environment for council chairmen to perform in the state.

While commending all political stakeholders in Mkpat Enin for their love, support and cooperation evident in the prevailing peace in the area, Hon Akpan, promised unalloyed loyalty and restated his avowed determination to steer the ship of Mkpat Enin Local Government to the Port of Gold.
