2015: Oruk Anam PDP pledges support to Eshiet Offiong

The members of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oruk Anam Local Government Area have expressed their readiness to work towards the actualization of the National Assembly ambition of Deacon Eshiet Offiong in 2015. The chapter Chairman of the party, Pastor Cletus Eshiet dropped the hint on Wednesday when Deacon Offiong consulted the party at Ikot Ibritam.

The Party Chairman who was represented by Prince Ukandie Ukpe advised the teeming supporters to work hard for the victory of the aspirant whom he described as “a marketable product” that deserves the unflinching support of the people of the federal constituency. Prince Ukpe advised Deacon Offiong to remember the people when he gets to the House of Representatives in 2015.

The Director–General of Emancipation 2015 Campaign Organization, Rt Hon (Dr) Louis Iyiet who is a former member of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly urged the people to join the winning team as no one wants to be identified with failure, describing failure as an orphan. Hon Iyiet explained that an egg that would be hatched into a cock is known the day that it is laid, pointing out that the aspirant is humble, approachable and down - to - earth. He described Deacon Offiong as an aspirant with massive appeal who would not let the people down even as he would provide effective representation for the good people of the federal constituency.

A former chairman of Oruk Anam Local Government Area, Hon (Dr) David Umohessien thanked the executive of the party in the area for their organizing spirit and unity. He expressed satisfaction in the warm reception accorded Deacon Offiong and his entourage, advising them to give all aspirants level playing ground. Dr. Umohessien emphasized that equity should prevail in the federal constituency since Ukanafun and Oruk Anam have been sharing the House of Representatives seat without rancor. He also stressed that his support for Hon. Emmanuel Ukoette during the 2011 election was out of equity even when someone from his place had aspired to the office. Dr. Umohessien advised Oruk Anam people to tow the line of equity and fairness so that peace would prevail. The former Chairman lamented the neglect of Oruk Anam LGA inspite of undiluted support of the people to successive governments.

While presenting his manifesto extempore, the House of Representatives aspirant, Deacon Eshiet Offiong stated that he is concerned about the rural renaissance of the federal constituency, explaining that his readiness to serve is not borne out of inordinate ambition, but self-sacrifice and dint of determination. He stated that he understands the plight of the grassroots even as anyone can be shot from anonymous background into limelight.

Mr. Offiong said he is like the biblical Nehemiah who could not sleep because his homeland was in ruins, saying that he has a mission to interpret his vision in conjunction with the people of the federal constituency. He lamented that the needy are hungry but the greedy are feeding fat while their gluttony continues unabated. He explained that this can be checked through re-orientation of the people, sustainable development plan, empowerment, education and poverty alleviation programmes. This, Deacon Offiong, said would be carried out with “positive anger” if given the mandate. He decried that his federal constituency has remained “a Palace of Bones”, advising people to always strive to leave a legacy, just as he counseled against animosity, divisiveness, deep-seated differences, and other vices.

A former leader of Ukanafun legislature Hon. Uko Idiong described Offiong as the doyen of all in race, saying that he has antecedent of sincerity, straightforwardness and of unsullied character.

The party executive members and other stakeholders at the event prayed for the success of Mr. Offiong in his aspiration.
