A former member of House of representative, Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Luke Ekpo says the people of ikot Ekpene district will vote massively for him in the coming PDP primaries because it is the turn of his Abak federal Constituency to produce a senator for the senatorial District.
Ekperikpe Ekpo , a former Chairman of Ika Local Government Council of Akwa ibom state who represented Abak federal Constituency between 2007 and 2011 told journalists after consulting with his Kinsmen on his ambition that the God of Justice will prevail on his behalf.
According to him, the Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District has long history of rotation on the issue of representation in the senate,
“The Abak division has two federal constituency while the Ikot Ekpene division has two federal constituencies.
Records have it that out of four federal constituencies three have taken their slots over time, in 1998, Ikot Ekpene produced a senator with Emmanuel ibok Essien while Abak axis produced in 2003 with Dr. Itak Ekarika from Ukanafun/Oruk Anam federal constituency but in 2007 till date, Ikot Ekpene axis has represented the senatorial District with Senator Alloysious Etuk, so it is the turn of the Abak Axis with special reference to Abak Federal Constituency to produce a senator. The Governor is from the same constituency with the incumbent senator”.
Ekperikpe Ekpo recalled that the Governor has in 2007 and 2011 appealed to them to let the incumbent Senator Alloysious Etok stay in the Senate stressing that the Abak Federal Constituency being the only one yet to produce a senator for the district will no longer listen to any excuse or appeal for 2015 slot.
Brandishing the senatorial form purchased recently, the Ex-Lawmaker told journalists that he is not afraid to stand election against the Governor stressing that the God of Justice equity and fair play will be on his side.
“Our party the PDP stands for Justice and equity and also as a former member of the House of Representative, I will be a ranking senator in the senate and I must equally remind you that my respect for zoning was the reason, I did not re-contest for the House of representative in 2011 because it was the turn of my brothers from Etim Ekpo council area to go.” he said.
Ekperikpe Ekpo vowed to make a difference if elected through free and fair primaries and coming general election stressing that his experiences as a former council chairman and ex-member of the House of representative had adequately equipped him for the big task ahead. He expressed confidence in the leadership of party at the national level saying “Our national chairman is a man of integrity, he has asked those willing to contest elections to go to their wards and work with the people, he has equally assured us of free and fair primaries which will be done in the field”.
Ekperikpe said that the other contestants from federal constituencies which had earlier produced senators for the senatorial district have in the spirit of justice and equity collapsed their structures in support of his ambition assuring his supporters that he will defeat Governor
