“Let’s not wait for the government to repair the abandoned Oron Road project in Oron again” was the utterance of Chief Edet Isong, publisher of Newsday Newspaper as he witnessed another death of a commuter along the narrow winding Stadium Road in Oron.
The chief who also double as a political stalwart in his domain issued this statements to pressmen at the scene of the accident which claimed a life to what he termed as “an uncommon neglect of Oro by Godswill Akpabio government.”
The Mokafa of Efut lamented on the deplorable state of the gully erosion site at Oron road in Oron which has submerged several houses and now saving as a ravine for dumping refuse. ”That road is the only access into Oron commercial fish market. Economic activities have been stagnated. Vehicles skidding into each other along Stadium road divergent route because it was not built to carry the volume of traffic here at the moment.”
According to some motorists on the road who spoke to this reporter, due to the traffic congestion at Stadium road alternative route, couple with it narrowness, fatal accidents have become a daily occurence on that road.
The abandoned collapsed Oron road has become operational ground for hoodlums who perpetuate all manner of crimes.
The chief, also known as Okosisi 1, is appealing to all Sons and daughters of Oro, good spirited individuals, philanthropists and friends of Oro Nation to joins hand with him to build Oron Road in Oron. “We must not wait for the government again. They have failed us. We must take our destiny into our hands,” he said.
