NYSC scheme, a unifying force in Nigeria - Akan Okon
The State Commissioner for Finance,  Mr. Akan Okon has described the National Youth Service Corp scheme  as a unifying force that has cemented  diverse cultural, ethnic ,and religious boundaries of the people of Nigeria.

The Commissioner who made the assertion during the send off ceremony for the out-going eleven Batch C corp members that served in his Ministry ,acknowledged the pivotal role of the NYSC scheme in bringing people from  different backgrounds together to foster love and unity. This, he said has further enhanced the stability of the  country.

 Mr. Okon who stated that he was glad to interface with the outgoing corp members to offer words of advice that would serve as a guide in our challenging world ,urged them to be resourceful even in the face of daunting unemployment  in the country by engaging in productive activities that could add value to their lives, and the economy.

He pointed out that the scheme was a stepping stone towards robust future as experiences gained would adequately build and strengthen their career paths.


While congratulating the out- going corp members for fulfilling the mandate of the scheme with  the successful completion of their primary assignments, the Finance Commissioner charged them to be good ambassadors of the country by remaining disciplined, peaceful, and law abiding stressing that they should equally refrain from all forms of negative tendencies to avoid jeopardizing their future.

Mr. Akan Okon also applauded their ingenuity and magnanimity through their donation of a flat screen television set to the ministry, adding that they were leaving an indelible legacy for emulation in the course of their service to the nation, and prayed God to reward them.

 In his remarks at the occasion, the Permanent Secretary, Elder Offiong Udoffe urged the corp members to strive for excellence as they transit to the next phase of their lives in a competing world.

The Permanent Secretary also called on them to make efforts to obtain their professional qualifications to add to their first degrees so as to be more relevant in their respective sectors, while wishing them success in their future endeavors.

Responding on behalf of his colleagues, Mr. Maxwell Fiabema, thanked the Ministry of Finance and Akwa Ibom State Government for the opportunity given them to serve in the state.

Mr. Fiabema lauded Governor Godswill Akpabio’s sustained support to the Corp members and for the peaceful atmosphere in the state, describing Akwa Ibom as a coordinated society with secured environment which they have all savored.
High point of the event was the inauguration of the flat screen television donated to the security unit by the corp members, while gift items were also presented to them by the ministry.

Some of the corp members, Judith Ejiofor,Chioma Stephen, Adanma Yvette, and Ijeoma Achor  who spoke with the Reporter expressed delight to be a part  of the warmth and hospitable people of the state, describing their service year as rewarding and memorable.
