Governor Godswill Akpabio has charged the state chapter chairmen of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) not to take sides with critics of government but to regulate their duties effectively for which they were elected.
Akpabio, while addressing Akwa Ibom people at the Ibom International Airport Thursday on his return from Abuja, remarked, “state chapter chairmen of the PDP must regulate their duties effectively in which they were elected for and not to take sides with those who are bent on criticizing the efforts of the present administration”.
On the various critics by some PDP elders of the state against his administration and the office of the state PDP chairman, Chief Akpabio, noted, “The destiny of the state is in the hands of the youths and don’t look at those elders that want to bring disharmony into the state through tribal or ethnics sentiments, remember that the future belongs to you all”.
The Governor, accompanied by the state PDP Chairman, Obong Paul Ekpo, stated “Some misinterpret it that I want the youths to be against elders of the state, but I can never incite the youths against elders. I encourage the youths to respect them so that their lives can be long on earth but at the same time, ‘respect is reciprocal”.
“My administration has always respected and carried elders along. We have also succeeded in giving a future to our children by touching them through the education, health, agricultural sectors, among others, so I assure the people of the state of good governance for sustainable development and I must thank you all for supporting my administration”.
Commenting on those who criticized the state PDP Chairman as not being competent, Akpabio pointed out that the state PDP chairman has run a party that was pleasing to the people of the state and that he was a duly elected party executive, assuring the people of the state that the state PDP Chairman would continue to give the people good governance.
The state PDP Chairman, Obong Ekpo said the party would no longer tolerate the misconduct of some PDP elders and chapter chairmen, stressing that party does not need any further distractions but to get prepared for the upcoming elections and called on some elders of the party not to bring in their personal problems into the affairs of the party.
Ekpo, however, thanked other elders of the party for supporting him and the state Governor for maintaining a strong PDP party in the state, for giving the people of the state a reason to celebrate and for giving the people of the state a voice in the country.
