In apparent response to the intense pressure piled up on the Executive Chairman of Okobo Local Government Area to seek election into the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly in 2015, Princess Felicia Bassey has finally yielded to the desire and prayers of her people to represent them in the State House of Assembly in 2015.
Consequently, Princess Bassey at the weekend, embarked on a wide consultation of relevant stakeholders, PDP stalwarts, youth leaders, women groups, among others, to express her willingness and acceptance of their yearnings to vie for the Okobo State Constituency seat in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly in 2015.
While meeting with the members of the Executive and Legislative Arms of Okobo Local Government Area, her immediate constituency, executive and members of PDP in Offi Ward I, Coordinators and Members of Akwa Ibom Consolidation Alliance (ACA), Princess Felicia Bassey expressed deep gratitude to the people of Okobo Local Government Area for believing in her competence, capacity, result-oriented and pragmatic leadership style, and assured them that she would not disappoint them, as she would justify the huge confidence reposed on her, if elected into the House of Assembly.
Speaking further, the Executive Chairman of Okobo Local Government Area, noted that power belongs to God and He gives to whom he pleases, adding that the voice of the people remains the voice of God.
Princess Bassey intimated the mammoth crowd who thronged her residence in Oti-Oro, that by the political permutations in the zoning of elective political offices in the area, 2015 is the turn of Atak-Oro Development Area to produce the next occupant of the Okobo State Constituency seat in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, emphasizing that she is eminently qualified to vie for the House of Assembly job, having garnered varied experiences in the various capacities she has served the people.
Meanwhile, Princess Bassey used the forum to present her nomination form/expression of interest to the party and Okobo Council Officers, who enthusiastically endorsed her aspirator for the 2015 Okobo State Constituency job.
Responding, the Vice-Chairman of Okobo Local Government Area, Hon. Pastor Benedict Akwa congratulated the Chairman for yielding to the demands of Okobo people to run for the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, and described Princess Felicia Bassey as a visionary-driven, transparent and focused administrator, who has exemplified the true spirit of Okobo women in her service as the Executive Chairman of Okobo and former Woman Leader of the State PDP for Eket Senatorial District.
The Vice Chairman maintained that Okobo would be better off with Princess Felicia Bassey in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly in terms of quality representation, execution of life-touching projects, and human empowerment.
On his part, the Leader of Okobo Legislative Council, Hon. Edet Akwa who spoke on behalf of Councillors, described Princess Felicia Bassey as a go-getter with refreshing capacity to connect Okobo people to the centre of power.
The leader advised Okobo people not to scuttle the age-long zoning formula between Atak-Oro and Okobo, which has enthroned peace and harmonious co-existence between the two political blocs in the area, affirming that Princess Bassey remains the best material for the plum job, having been favoured by zoning arrangement in the area.
Also speaking, the former leader of Okobo Legislative Council and the current Secretary of Okobo Council, Hon. Asuquo Koffi described Princess Felicia Bassey as a politician cum administrator with a large heart to accommodate all shades of interest in the two political blocs of Okobo if elected, and called on entire Okobo people to rally round Princess Bassey in her readiness to represent them.
Hon. Koffi observed that judging from the political pedigree and antecedents of Princess Bassey, the Atak-Oro Development Area would have no regrets presenting Princess Felicia Bassey as the sole candidate for the Okobo State Constituency job in the House of Assembly.
Going historical, Hon. Koffi who is the Director-General of Princess Felicia Bassey campaign organization, said no political bloc has ever repeated the House of Assembly Seat in Okobo, advising self-centred politicians in the area not to fan ember of disunity and violence in Okobo because of their selfish political ambitions.
In their separate remarks, the Coordinator, ACA in Okobo L.G.A, Mr. Attah Okon Attah, Hon. Imaobong Edet Okon, Councillor representing Akai Mbokpu Udung Ward, Supervisory Councillor for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr. Asuquo Nduonyi, Special Adviser, Commerce and Industry, Mrs. Victoria Andem, Majority Leader, Okobo Legislative Council/Councillor representing Offi Ward II, Hon. Ben Oyombio, PDP Ward Chairman, Offi Ward I, Mr. Okon Dan Antai and others expressed confidence and satisfaction with Princess Felicia Bassey’s unquestionable democratic credentials and ability to give Okobo people quality representation in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly in 2015.
They, however, prevailed on all stakeholders in Okobo project to identify with Princess Felicia Bassey’s aspiration to represent Okobo State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly come 2015.
