Stakeholders of people democratic party, PDP in south Eastern part of Uruan has formerly declared their support to the second term ambition of the member representing Uruan State Constituency in the state House of Assembly, Hon. Kufreabasi Bassey Etuk warning their sons who had earlier indicated interest for the position to rescind their aspiration for the interest of peace and unity of the area.
Speaking at the occasion, a former Chairman of Uruan Local Government Area, Hon. Eventus Edem said, having considered the uncertainty and confusion that will interrupt the zoning principle, which has lasted for a number of years in Uruan, He wished to summon PDP faithful, as their leader to give direction on the way forward, which he said was for interest of the posterity and continuous unity which has existed in the area.
He said, just like Usenobong Akpabio, who had represented Uruan in the state House of assembly for 1st and 2nd terms of 8years, Kufre Etuk can continue to represent the area having performed creditably and due to the physical impact he has laid on his constituents. While calling on other indigenes of the area, who had earlier indicated interest for the position to annul their aspiration for the interest of peace and unity, the Ntanta Uruan who was also the convener of the meeting said, the party will always give a performing member an opportunity to continue in order to impact more on the electorate. Saying that Kufre Etuk’s performance was worthy of encouragement. He advised the stakeholders to toe the line of unity by supporting Hon. Kufre Etuk to return as a ranking member in the next dispensation for the betterment of Uruan people.
Speaking on behalf of political leaders in the three wards that made up the area, the zonal leader / leader of Southern Uruan Ward 3, elder Okon Etim, a.k.a (iyide) said democracy would have not taken it rightful place if Hon. KUFRE Etuk was going for a second term without opposition saying that the area will support his second term ambition without regret (despite the people that may resist the voice of the stakeholders to contest with), having done same during his first term.
He said both the women and the youths of the area have shown their interest to the support the second term ambition of Hon. Kufre Etuk, the Elders will not have any option than to join them for interest of peace, unity and sustainable development. While advising the youths to respect their Elders in order to achieve greatness in life, just like Hon. Kufre Etuk, the zonal Leader urged him to continue with his good work and the empowerment of youths and women of the area. Also speaking, the supervisor for Agriculture in Uruan Local Government Council, Hon. Aniefiok Asuquo commended the former Council Chairman, Hon. Eventus Edem for acting promptly as a father to the course of south/Easthern part of Uruan.
He asserted that, since the stakeholders from the three wards that formed the zone have accepted Kufre Etuk, his ways again to the Hallow chamber will be clear without hindrance. He stressed that Rt. Hon. Usenobong Akpabio represented Uruan for 1st and 2nd terms of 8years without interruption by any individual from the Northern Uruan axis, since it was zone to them and that the case of kufre Etuk will not be dissimilar since he has performed creditably. “It is constitutional in Uruan, right from Usenobong Akpabio’s days, that power, when zones to a particular zone will remain for eight years before other zone could contest for it”, saying that, it should be the people of south/south in particular that would have challenge Hon. Kufre Etuk and not any other zone.
He called on his brothers, from the zone to have a rethink before going to challenge Hon. Kufre Etuk for the interest of peace and posterity sake. Speaking further, a chapter officer of the people Democratic Party, Hon. Tony Monday said his ward will not contest the office with Hon. Kufre Etuk, as they were ready to give him a unanimous support for a second term. Hon Monday, who is from southern Uruan ward 2 urged other wards to do same, saying that the law maker has made Uruan people proud through effective representation and even distribution of social amenities allotted to the area. Speaking on behalf of youths in the zone, Mr. Kingsley Idiong Ette, Mr. Effiong and Comrade Ifiok Okon Edet agreed to work with the Elders and stakeholders to ensure that no vote from the area will be missed. Emphasizing that youths of the area were ready to support Hon. Kufre Etuk for a second term “as it happened to the former, so shall it be to the later” They maintained that Hon. Kufre Etuk’s second term will be compensation from Uruan people for his dogged fight for the restoration of integrity and respect for Uruan.
Earlier in his remark, the President of Southern Uruan Development Union, Elder Effiong Thompson said the second term ambition of Hon Kufre Etuk was in order as Elders of the Local Government were fully in support of him, since the position was the right of South/South part of Uruan. While commending Dr Eventus Edem for championing a good course, the PDP stakeholder said with Kufre Etuk as a ranking member in the state Assembly, Uruan will be better-off In her vote of thanks, Obongawan Theresa Inyang, said it was a privilege for her to attend a meeting of such magnitude which has accorded her the opportunity to decide for the future of the area.
