Esit Eket/Ibeno state constituency: Hope rises as Usoro Akpanusoh joins race BY EMMANUEL AKPAN
The race for the next member representing  Esit Eket/Ibeno State Constituency in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly come 2015 has taken a new dimension as Rt. Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh has indicated interest for the seat.

Last week Friday, Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh stormed the community hall of Afaha Ekpenedi village in Esit Eket Local Government Area for a consultation amidst songs of excitements by the people of the area.

To those who may not know, Rt. Hon. Usoro Akapnusoh hails from Uquo village in Esit Eket Local Government Area. He is a two-term councillor and a former vice chairman of the area; a successful businessman and a strong politician who has been installing people of the region into political offices. Presently, Rt. Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh is the Assistant Organizing Secretary in the State executive of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

While addressing the crowd, Akpanusoh said his aspiration to represent Esit Eket/Ibeno State Constituency in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly was to contribute his quota to the development of the constituency. He promised to transform Esit Eket and Ibeno Local Government Areas if elected in 2015, noting that he ventured into politics to set the pace for more youths to seek elective positions in the next general elections in the State.

The House of Assembly hopeful advised those clamouring for the seat come 2015 to forget their ambition, pointing out that it would not be difficult for him to clinch victory at the poll as according to him, his experience as a long party faithful and the Assistant Secretary of the Party in the State executive will go a long way in telling him those who can deliver at the ward level.

“Most of them who say they will win me, can they win in their ward? I am older than most of them in politics and so, I can tell that I will be sworn-in as the next assembly member representing Esit Eket/Ibeno State Constituency”.

The former Vice Chairman further said that he joined the race in Esit Eket/Ibeno State Constituency to serve the people with his wealth of experience and promised empowerments for the youths, recommendation for employments as well as contracts for the people of his constituency if he is elected into office.

Hon. Akpanusoh stated that his background in politics and life experiences have prepared him for the task of offering quality representation to the people of Esit Eket/Ibeno State Constituency.

He maintained that as a lawmaker, he would hold regular briefings in the constituency which will give periodic reports on developments at the State House of Assembly, especially as it concerns them as well as get their feedback/inputs on relevant issues, motions and bills that have direct bearing on them.
While seeking for the support of the people of Esit Eket, he reminded them that there is hope for them if they pray for his victory in the race. He disclosed that after due consultations with stakeholders in the area, he has decided run and that the stakeholders had given him the blessings.

In his words “the prayers of the elders of this constituency will surely lead me to victory in 2015”.
He called on Afaha Ekpenedi village in particular and the entire Esit Eket to unite and speak in one voice in his support towards 2015.

In his remarks, Hon. Edet Inyang Bassey expressed satisfaction at the likes of Rt. Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh in the race and promised to support him till the end. He advised the party leaders in the Local Government Area to promote equity, justice and fairplay by allowing an Uquo son to emerge the winner at the 2015 poll.

Obongawan Friday Asam promised to mobilize women to queue behind the aspirant, while Mr. Bassey Edet Andrew assured him of the youths’ allegiance to his bid.

Highpoint of the consultation was prayers by the elders of the community to Rt. Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh led by village head of Afaha Ekpenedi, His Highness Obong Asuquo Bassey and the adopting of the aspirants as a preferred candidate by the youths.

Those present at the consultation were: Hon. Macaulay Nyoho, Hon. Billy Ikpong Ette, Hon. Edet Bassey, Engr. Dan Abia, Obongawan Grace Akpadiaha, Hon. (Pastor) Uno Eyo, Hon. Udowak Ekpe, Elder Eyo Eteudo, Hon. Emem Peter, Hon. Bassey Inyanam, Hon. Macaulay Tom, Hon. Imo Henshaw, Mr. Canny Edet, Mr. Anietie Okon and some of the chapter and ward executive members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Esit Eket Local Government Area.

At Ibeno Local Government Area, the story was not different as Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh also took his consultation team to the residence of the PDP chapter chairman of Ibeno, Hon. Eko Ette at Ukpenekang and had a closed-door meeting with all the chapter and ward executive members of the Ibeno PDP chapter.

Checks by THE INK reveal that Rt. Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh is a factor as far as politics in Esit Eket is concerned. He knows those behind him by their names and faces. He has political structures all over the constituency and those that be in the two local government areas are in support of his aspiration.

Hon. Akpanusoh’s aspiration is targeted at four agendas namely: Effective representation,

Accountability, Human capacity development and Transparency. He had prepared his mind some years back for the position he is vying for. But in order for his dream to come to pass, Akpanusoh started his consultation with his immediate village, Uquo few weeks ago before taking it to Afaha Ekpenedi community hall. He is at the centre of positive political publications especially as a State PDP exco member. That is why Akpanusoh has the advantage of winning the election.

Rt. Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh has all the academic qualifications to vie for the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly seat. His life is a testimony to others and that is why his campaign slogan is “kini-Abasi 2015”. He is the only one who will implement his policies and agenda when he enters office most especially, the empowerment programs for youths, recommendation for employments as well as awarding of contracts.

In a recent interaction with Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh, he had said this to THE INK “my promise to God in this election is that if He blesses me, I will use it to better the life of the people. That is why I want to go to the House of Assembly. I see my going to Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly as a call to service. I will work for the betterment of my constituency in particular and the State in general”.

With his promises, it is believed that Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh will be given a chance to become the next AKHA member representing Esit Eket/Ibeno State Constituency not just for a term alone, but two, if he performs credibly well.
