Niger Delta Youth Council trains 3,500 youths


The Niger Delta Youth Council, a socio-political group, has trained over 3000 youths of the region in various skills including welding and fabrication within the past three years.

The information was contained in an address presented by the Akwa Ibom State Chairman of the group, Comrade Henry Ufokiko on the occasion of the inauguration of its Eket Senatorial District Chapters at QIC Primary School, Usung Inyang, Eket during the week.

Comrade Ufokiko said in addition to the group’s personal efforts, it is working tirelessly to partner corporations and multinationals in the State to empower its members through skill acquisition programme in the area of catering, decoration, production of liquid soup, Izal, insecticides, fashion designing, fabrication and welding among other relevant professions.


“UNDYC has just finished training 320 members in Mkpat-Enin Local Government Area who graduated on 23rd August, 2014 and is currently training more than 3000 members in Oron Federal Constituency. The training will move to Essien Udim on October 27, thereafter Itu Federal Constituency will take its turn in November this year”, the youth leader said.

He commended Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State for his uncommon transformation which he said has impacted positively on youths of the State, adding that the group will continue to support good government policies that are intended to better the lots of the youths in Akwa Ibom State in particular and Nigeria as a whole.

On the achievement of the group so far, Ufokiko said since its formation in 1998, UNDYC has been in the forefront in advocating for the Niger Delta people and seeking for a peaceful co-existence in the component part of the Nigerian Nation.

He said further that in a national peace conference held in Abuja in 2007, the group’s resolutions were adopted by the late president Umaru Musa Yar’adua’s administration and implemented in what is today known as the Amnesty programme for Ex-militants of the Niger Delta Region.

“I am proud to say that by this singular art, UNDYC has contributed to the development of the Nigerian Nation with particular reference to the Niger Delta Region which is now counting its blessing in terms of development”, he said.

On the forth-coming General elections, Comrade Henry Ufokiko called on youths to eschew violence and not to be used by desperate politicians, adding that the future of this country depends on the role of the youths today.

A minute silence was observed in honour of Late Comrade Nsikak Umoh Etebom from Essien Udim who passed away few days ago.

Comrade Etebom until death was the Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District Chairman of UNDYC.
