The Akwa Ibom State Forum of Councillors has declared their total resolve to mobilize support for Mr. Micahel Sabastine to succeed Governor Godswill Akpabio in 2015.
Chairman of the forum and councillor representing Nung Asang ward II in Ikot Abasi, Hon. Joseph Idiong dropped the hint in a statement recently, in Ikot Abasi.
According to him, the group has concluded arrangement to mobilize support and to cause delegates who participate in party primaries to vote for Mr. Sabastine. The lawmaker disclosed that they will sue every resource at their disposal to ensure that it works for Michael Sabastine “My exco is intact; we will support him massively as long as I remain chairman of the forum”.
Investigations by our reporter revealed that Mr. Joseph Idiong was single-handedly imposed on the ward. It was also revealed that Idiong is a material cousin of Michael and that he promised to install him as Councillor and chairman of the Councillors’ Forum against all odds.
Stakeholders and the political class in Nung Asang Ward II told this tabloid that Joseph was the least among the aspirants but that Michael Sabastine used his money and connections to impose him on the Ward. It was also revealed that the Councillor, unlike his colleagues in other Wards of Ikot Abasi has never briefed his Ward since his assumption into office, let alone Ward development programmes.
Other members of the forum who confided in the tabloid wondered why Joseph should be made the chairman with his lean academic qualifications.
It was gathered that he has been having secret meetings with Michael Sabastine with a few officers of the forum who are planning to frustrate ACA in Ikot Abasi.
