The state Governor, Chief (Dr.) Godswill Akpabio (CON) has been commended for successfully Commissioning the Annang Museum of Culture and Heritage in Ikot Ekpene. The Museum which is under the National Commission for Museum and Monument (NCMM) a parastatal of the Federal Ministry of Culture and Tourism was successful commissioned last Thursday in an event chaired by a former director of Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) Engr. Samuel Inyang.
Speaking on the occasion, the facilitator of the museum project and former member representing Ikot Ekpene Federal Constituency, Hon. Patty Etete Ineme, commended Governor Akpabio for making the museum project a reality, noting with delight that the museum will go a long way to promote, preserve and protect the rich cultural heritage and tradition of the Annangs. “It is time to start appreciating Arts, crafts, and rich cultural heritage to encourage a positive connection between the past and present, otherwise, a whole history and culture may totally go extinct from our memories” he declared.
Continuing, he said, “the commissioning today of the National Museum, Ikot Ekpene is a milestone in the history of Annang nation. We can use our culture to create and shape our identities as one people, through different forms of artistic and cultural expressions”. He called on the Annang nation to be guided by their history especially in these trying times of insecurity, radicalization and distortion of beliefs and sentiments. He called on the people to be worthy ambassadors so that the expectations of their forefather will not be cut short lest history judges them, advocating the need for Annang to be worthy athlete who successfully handed over the baton to their team mate by bequeathing values to the younger generations.
The event was witnessed by a frontline Governorship aspirant in the state, Hon. Benjamin Okoko, former member House of Representatives, Hon. Sujin Inokon, Gen. Nyoyoko, Paramount Rulers of Ikot Ekpene and Obot Akara, the Itam Afe Annang, HRM. Akuku Pius Effiong Eside IV, HH Obong J. J. Obosi, Chairman, Esop Mbong Afund Annang,Abom Tony Esuh, Barr. Austin Mbeh, Obong Nsima Ekere, Engr. Ibok Ete, officials of the NCMM and a host of others.
The museum situated at 10 smith close, off Abak Road, Ikot Ekpene has a gallery that displays rich cultural heritage of Annang land as well as the Annang Hall of fame that displays portraits of prominent Sons and Daughter of Annang land who have contributed significantly to the development of their fatherland.
