Hope in sight to rid Uyo of flood menace as Gov. Emmanuel flags-off outfall drain construction

Akwa Ibom State Governor Mr Udom Emmanuel has taken steps to tackle flood menace in the state with the flag off of the construction of Uyo Outfall Drain. Speaking at the event which took place along Oron road, Nsikak Eduok by four lane junction , Governor Emmanuel expressed delight at the quick take off of the project. He said his government is responsive to  the welfare of the people by ensuing that the state is made habitable for it citizens. He added that he would explore every means to justify the people’s mandate on him and announced that the project would be completed in four months.

The Commissioner for Works Engr. Ephraim Inyang -eyen  while shading light on the project execution, explained that the project is handled by the construction giant Julius Berger PLC  and that it is a 4.6km length of outfall drain with the first finger beginning from Ring Road 111 to Obot Idim and the second finger, from Tropicana to Obot Idim as Phase 1 of the project.
The new new phase according to him  is from Nsikak Eduok, Oron road to Tropicana. He said it’s a 1.5km total length of 2.0m by 1.5m Double Cell Underground Drain and 15km Service Road.
On completion, the Commissioner assured that there will be a deflooding of about 3.5 square kilometer of water shed including part of Ewet Housing Estate, part of Osongama Housing Estate, part of Edet Akpan Avenue, Oron  Road, Akwa Efak, Itiam Ikot Ebia and Itiam Etoi Communities.
The State Ministry of Works will supervise the project.
