Eket PDP laments neglect by government

It was a sad and uninteresting moment worse-still to mark the new month of August when all the eighteen chapter executives and eleven ward chairmen in Eket Chapter Executives of the Peoples Democratic party(PDP) gathered on Sunday, August 2,2015 at Visaco restaurant (The business enterprise of the chapter vice chairman)in their usual meetings to give deaf ears and remain adamant to what they expressed as an irrelevant address by their chapter chairman, Evangelist Godwin David.
Our reporter gathered that the chapter chairman’s addressed centered on the status and re-organization of the party in the chapter, appointment of the commissioner from the area, setting up of the chapter executive committee of the party, among other things. But not withstanding the issues in the chapter chairman’s address, members of the chapter executive rather lamented over the neglect of the party in the chapter by the state and local Government during the administration of Obong Godswill Obot Akpabio and Hon. Aniekan Wille Akpan respectively.
The chapter executives regretted that the erstwhile state governor played politics with the party in the chapter in particular by announcing an award of building contract worth #18M in favour of the chapter in the proposed state Government Owned Housing Estate without payment of mobilization contrary to the situation experienced by chapter executives of the party in His Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District. The chapter executives also frowned seriously at the state Government’s decision to empower only the thirty-one chapter chairman of the party in the state at the detriment of all other chapter executives as if the chapter chairman alone constitute or work for the party generally.
The chapter executives were also angered for all their sacrifice, costly efforts and painful contributions made collectively and individually for the recorded successes of the party in the State and National which have unfortunately gone without any compensation throughout their eight years selfless services to the party. They wondered how other party members will be encouraged to accept being appointed or elected as chapter or ward executives’ in the future composition of the party structures in the state as well as work hard for the party members of the chapter executive therefore unanimously appealed to Governor Udom Emmanuel to come to their rescue by empowering them as a show of appreciation and recognition for his victory at the last governorship election in the State before the end of their tenure.
However, it was learnt that the chapter chairman, Evangelist Godwin David disclosed at the meeting how party elders in the area failed submit to the list of nominees from the area to the state governor for appointment as commissioner until the date the State governor announced the names of his cabinet members, in spite of the hectic process adopted by the elders in selecting the nominees from the three geo-political zones in the area.
The chapter chairman also alerted his executive members of the plan to constitute the chapter executive committee of the party following the support and cooperation of the Transition Chairman, Mr. Frank Archibong and the incumbent member representing Eket State constituency in the State House of Assembly, Hon. David Lawrence Udofa. He attributed the failure to put the committee in place for the past four years due to the negative attitude of the former Local Government chairman and the outgone member of the State House of Assembly from the area.
