The Chairman House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Rt. Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh has said the House of Assembly did not reject the Governor Udom Emmanuel’s letter. It could be recalled that the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel had sent a letter to the House of Assembly on Tuesday asking the House to give him an approval to restructure commercial banks loan into Federal Government bonds. The Finance and Appropriation Committee Chairman while briefing newsmen last Friday at the House Committee’s Conference room, said the letter was after passing through first reading by the clerk was referred to his committee which he had taken step to invite the State Commissioner of Finance in order to brief the committee on some issues.
Usoro Akpanusoh who is the member representing Esit Eket/Ibeno State Constituency maintained that there was never a time the House of Assembly refused to receive the mail from the governor. According to the chairman, “We did not reject the governor’s letter. If that will bring good development to Akwa Ibom State, the House will look onto the merit of the letter and the committee will do recommendations at the plenary. So I decided to call this briefing to put the record straight that it is not true that the House of Assembly rejected the letter.”
Also speaking, the Deputy Chairman of Finance and Appropriation, Hon. Idongesit Ituen said the committee had ask the Finance Commissioner to bring to the notice of the House the exactly amount that was loaned by the last administration, adding that when that is made known to the House, the Assembly will approve the governor’s request, while the member representing Nsit Ubum, Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke said the restructuring would be to the benefit of Akwa Ibom people.
