Ikot Esen Akpan Ituen has emerged champions of the maiden edition of Hon Akpanobong Udoidem Unity cup by defeating their counterparts from Nya Odiong village 3: 1 in a thrilling final encounter played at Ikot Abasi Akpan primary school.
The Captain of the side Kufre Owoidoho a.k.a “Udoh” gave Ikot Essen the lead after a cool finish from close range in the first half before his brother Ubong Owoidoho doubled their lead just before the break. The Nya Odiong team started the second half on a bright note as they reduced the 2 goals by one few minutes into the second but that goal could as only serve as consolidation to the Nya Odiong team.
Ubong Owoidoho took the match beyond the team from the home town of the local Government Chairman of Mkpat Enin Hon. Ephraim Akpan when he added his second goal of the day to make it 3:1. All efforts by Nya Odiong to get themselves back into the match proved futile as their opponents were disciplined in their defending.
In his speech after the match the donor of the cup who is also the councilor representing Ibiaku ward 2 in the Mkpat Enin legislative council, Hon Iniobong Udoidem thanked the Council boss Hon Ephraim Akpan for being a lover of youths and for his support which made the competition a huge success.
He further commended the five participating teams for displaying high level of sportsmanship throughout the course of the competition.
A member of the technical crew of Ikot Essen Micheal Boniface Udoh thanked the councilor Hon Iniobong Udoidem for donating the cup. Coach Micheal Udoh described the Council Chairman as “Ufan Mkparawa 1 of Mkpat Enin” he explained that the cup has indeed brought the youths of the area together and promote peace among them.
Giant trophies, Medals and Cash prices were presented to the First, second and third place teams. Ikot Ekpaw went home with the bronze medal.
