On united Akwa Ibom State we stand

On united A’Ibom State we stand
On December 9, 2014 we arrived  Abuja in search of justice and preservation of the sanctity of democratic processes. After 40 days in the wilderness of injustice, it is time to move on to the next stage of restoration of the dignity of Akwa Ibom State that has been so savagely raped and plundered.

We extend our gratitude to all our friends, supporters and well-wishers all over the country and the diaspora, especially the common men and women, political and religious leaders and followers and the patriotic members of the State and Local Governments in Akwa Ibom State for all the prayers, solidarity messages and support of the last several weeks. We ask that the Almighty God bless you all.

In all these days in Abuja we have stayed and prayed together; we have reasoned and acted together, despite repeatedly failed attempts to entice us into disunity. In the spirit of this divine unity, we understand that the urgency of the current political challenge cannot be solved by entrenched personal political interests.

Our position on the struggle, premised on the need to liberate Akwa Ibom State from the grip of tyranny and impunity, is that the contemptuous selection of Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel as the Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is repugnant to due process and remains outrightly rejected by us now as always. It is in the overall benefit of Akwa Ibom State that we unite all democratic forces to ensure that this rejection, not only by G22 but all right thinking Akwa Ibomites, is implemented on February 28, 2015.

The times are absolutely abnormal; therefore, the deferment of our individual political aspirations is assuaged by our faith in the collective salvation of the generality of our peoples. We must devote immediate collective attention to clear the polluted political atmosphere of our dear State, and no individual effort should be spared in this respect. We urge the grossly deprived people of Akwa Ibom State, irrespective of party affiliation, to remain calm and focused, and continue to resist the emerging atrocious oligarchy.

In the spirit of Akwa Ibom Renaissance and after deep reflection, the need to give our people a new political direction is imperative. In the next couple of days, we will be strategising with our supporters and community leaders to ensure that the emerging direction produces a responsible and responsive Pan-Akwa Ibom Government sensitive to the needs and aspirations of the generality of our people.
Forward always, backward never!

Long live Akwa Ibom State! Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!!

(Being text of a press conference addressed by Obong Nsima Ekere, Chairman of the Forum of Akwa Ibom State PDP Governorship Aspirants (G22) and other members of the forum on their return to Uyo on Saturday, January 18, 2015)
