The Paramount Ruler of Ibeno Local Government Area, Chief Effiong Achianga has called on the Akwa Ibom Government to ensure the completion of Eket-Ibeno Road before the end of the present administration.
Achianga made the call in an interview with newsmen in Ibeno on Wednesday, saying that he would not keep quiet until the road was completed.
“We are appealing to International communities, ExxonMobil, Federal Government and Akwa Ibom Government for the completion of Eket-Ibeno road construction.
“Eket-Ibeno road should be done properly and commissioned, let the road be completed before the end of the present administration,’’ he said.
He said that the road produces the money the entire country is using adding that road “leads to heaven of Akwa Ibom in particular and Nigeria at large’’.
Our Correspondent reports that the 20-kilometre road was awarded to Chinese Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC), Nigeria Limited.
The road when completed would have four bridges, 300mm laterite sub-base course, 200 crushed stone base course, 60mm asphalt binder course, 50mm asphalt wearing course, 1.80 walkways, 2.75m parking lane, 20.1m carriageway and street light, among others.
Archianga said the road was strategic to the revenue base of the Federal Government and also leads to Mobil Producing Nigeria (MPN), unlimited operations.
According to him, the road gives all of us in the World what to eat; International community’s is involved, the road should have been the best so far in the state and the country.
He appealed to the Federal and State Government to construct Eket-Ibeno road well on completion, saying that the road deserve the best.
“The road is not a state road alone but a federal and International road, that road should be made well.
“I have told my friend, brother and my governor that I want him to complete that road before leaving office, I still believe since he is a promise keeper, the promise of Ibeno will be super,’’ Monarch said.
Archianga lamented that the road has taken so many lives due to its incomplete nature.
“The road have damage our tyres, we have lost so many of our children, parents and sisters on that road and others from another community, we want the road to be done well before the end of this present administration,’’ he said.
Our Correspondent recalled that the State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio flagged off the construction of Eket-Ibeno Road as a dual carriageway awarded at about N24.9 billion by July 2014.
Akpabio promised to complete the project before the end of his administration.
