In his determination to promote the state economy as well as sanitize Akwa Ibom by saving the state from unnecessary spending of money and the activities of thugs, the Akwa Ibom State governorship standard bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for the forthcoming elections, Deacon Udom Emmanuel last Saturday shocked Governor Godswill Akpabio’s boys by allegedly positing that there is no need for their existence. Sources within the system hinted that the former SSG had maintained that the group is not controlling anything.

Udom Emmanuel is said to have ordered the scraping off of a well known group of boys alleged to be thugs who have been working for the state Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio at every political function in the state, popularly known as Crowd Control Unit (CCU).
Our source who was at Nsit Ubium Local Government Area for the PDP rally hinted THE INK that it was so surprising that at the end of the rally at Nsit Ubium, the Crowd Control Unit (CCU) members were denied their stipends on the instructions of the PDP standard bearer. Udom Emmanuel is said to have refused to release their money on the excuse that the money being spent on the CCU members was not necessary while the security agencies are doing the same job of controlling the crowd professionally.

THE INK gathered from a close aide to Udom Emmanuel that the PDP governorship candidate does not always feel comfortable working with CCU members, adding that his boss sees the Crowd Control Unit members as people who are jobless and fond of harassing people. Our source noted that considering the amount of money spent on CCU, it was unnecessary as far as the government is putting in much money in the security agencies each time there is government event in the state. In his words, I support my boss on his wisdom to scrap off the CCU. What will they come and control?

On this shocking development, the CCU coordinator, Mr. Emmanuel Ekpenyong is said to have been stranded or pretended to be stranded. He is said to have protested and complained bitterly alongside with his members on the reason the PDP candidate should have give such directive that money should not be release for the boys. Emmanuel Ekpenyong popularly known as Iraq was said to have however pleaded with the boys to calm down while our source noted that Iraq was unhappy with the PDP governorship candidate on the development.

Another source (names withheld) said after the shocking development, some of the boys are said to have vowed to vote for the opposition party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the general elections next month, while some vowed to report Udom to men that matters in the system.

According to him, we were surprised at the end of the event, we waited for our normal money as usual, all of a sudden we heard a very shocking news that Udom Emmanuel who is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate whom we supported during the last month party nomination has refused to approve our money after standing under a very hot sun with an excuse that the our money was too much and not necessary. Has Udom suddenly forgotten that we have been working for his boss Governor Akpabio for some years now or doesn’t him, Udom know that we are eating from this job? If Udom Emmanuel tries anything to stop us from the CCU work, we will frustrate him at the polls come next month. A Crowd Control Unit member vowed.

However, it could be recalled that during the last year town hall meeting which was organized by Governor Godswill Akpabio in all the 10 federal constituencies, the CCU members had caused problems including fighting with people at every venue of the briefing. Some of the problems they caused led to loss of lives and damage of properties, a situation that caused terrible anger amongst those in government and even security operatives.

Meanwhile, political observers in the state have commended Udom Emmanuel for his determination to make money for the state and also to promote Akwa Ibom economy by putting to a stop the unnecessary expenditure. They noted that although some people may not be comfortable with the determination of the PDP man to scrap or ban the activities of the CCU, that it was a right step in the right direction as according to them, money meant for frivolities will be saved.
