Lawmaker hands over Civic Centre to TRC

A beautiful edifice which will serve as a rallying  point for the people of Otoro Clan in Abak Local Government Area was recently Commissioned and handed over to Otoro Clan Traditional Rulers Council.

Speaking before unveiling the signpost of the Civic Centre, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Deputy Governorship Candidate for Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Moses Ekpo, expressed happiness with the quality of representation Elder Friday Iwok has given to the people of Abak State Constituency. 

Mr. Ekpo pointed out that the people of Abak have not regretted sending Elder Iwok to the State House of Assembly and called on other representative of the people to emulate Elder Iwok by doing something that they would be remembered for.

The pioneer Commissioner for Information in the State called on the people of Abak to vote for PDP Candidates at all levels during the forth-coming general election for more dividends of democracy to come to the area.


The PDP Deputy Governorship Candidate advised the people to collect their permanent Voters Card to enable them exhibit their franchise and warned against supporting opposition Party or giving out voters cards to people.
Mr. Ekpo thanked God for using Elder Friday Iwok to touch the lives of the people of the area positively. 

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Aniekan Umanah explained that it is important that when somebody is occupying a certain position, there must be something to take back home. “It is important that when you are occupying a certain position, there must be something to take back home. The Civic Centre is a well-thought out community project and I congratulate Elder Friday Iwok for initiating and completing the project”, Mr. Umanah stated.

The Commissioner described the PDP Governorship Candidate in the State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel and his running-mate, Mr. Moses Ekpo as humble, God-fearing, sound and intelligent gentlemen who will work together and bring more development to the state.

Mr. Umanah expressed the hope that the in-coming administration would construct the Manta – Abak – 10 Miles Road and warned against supporting opposition. “Don’t give your voters Card to anybody. Your card is your power. That is your power. That is your right that will enable you to vote”. You have to be ready to guide and protect your votes, the Commissioner advised.

On her part, the Chairman Ethical and Attitudinal Re-orientation Commission, EARCOM, Deaconess Christy Obot commended the Member representing Abak State Constituency in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Elder Friday Iwok for the numerous achievements he has recorded.

Deaconess Obot assured that the women will give 100 percent votes during the forth-coming election.

Speaking onbehalf of the party, the Chairman Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Abak Chapter, Obong Udobong Mbeje congratulated the Assemblyman for initiating and completing the project.

The PDP chairman called on the people of Abak to collect their permanent Voters Card, assuring that PDP will win the forth-coming election at all levels.
Elder Friday Archibong who spoke onbehalf of all the Councilors from Otoro Clan, thanked Elder Iwok for making the people of Otoro Clan proud through his performance in the State House of Assembly. Popularly called FRIKPU, the Councilor assured PDP of 100 Percent votes during the forth-coming election, pointing out that there is no opposition party in the Clan.

Also speaking, a prominent son of Abak Local Government Area and Provost, Federal School of Medical Laboratory Science, Jos, Plateau State, Dr. Nkereuwem Etukudoh expressed happiness with the achievements recorded by Elder Friday Iwok and called on the people of Abak to continue to support him to do more.

Dr. Etukudoh also called on the people of Abak to continue to support Chief Godswill Akpabio’s administration and his Senatorial ambition.

The Provost warned against supporting opposition Party. Others who spoke at the well-attended occasion including the representative of the Youths, Mr. Iniobong Moses, the PDP Chapter Women Leader, Mrs. Mercy Isonguyo, Family Heads among others, described the day as memorable and thanked God for what He has used Elder Friday Iwok to do for the people of Otoro Clan in particular and Abak State Constituency in general. They showered praises on Elder Iwok for bringing dividends of democracy to the area.

Addressing the gathering, the initiator of the project, Elder Friday Iwok who started by singing praises to God, expressed gratitude to God for making the day possible and thanked the PDP Deputy Governorship Candidate, Mr. Moses Ekpo and the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Aniekan Umanah for finding time to attend the event despite their tight schedules. The Assemblyman commended Mr. Aniekan Umanah for his outstanding performance in office as the Commissioner for Information, stressing that he has projected the image of the State positively to the outside world.

Elder Iwok also extolled the qualities of the PDP Deputy Governorship Candidate, describing him as a transparent and God-fearing man who has excellent track record.

The Lawmaker thanked God for the successful completion of the project, saying that he decided to construct the Civic Centre to serve as a rallying point for the people of Otoro Clan. 

The Chairman House Committee on Health expressed happiness that contrary to what some people thought, their son, Chief Godswill Akpabio will produce a successful in May, 2015. He assured that the people of Otoro Clan will work collectively to deliver 100 percent voters to PDP during the forth-coming election. “We want to assure you that Otoro Clan will work collectively and concertedly to deliver 100 percent votes to PDP. The good thing and the good news is that our son, Chief Godswill Akpabio will produce a successor,” the Ette Aru Otoro stated. 

Elder Iwok warned against playing and supporting opposition party. He advised the people to collect their permanent voters card to enable them exhibit their franchise during the forth-coming elections. 

The Assemblyman used the occasion to honour a former athletics star from the area, Mr. Michael Isonguyo who had represented the then South Eastern State and Cross River State in many national and international athletics championship. 

Responding, Mr. Michael Isonguyo popularly known as “Angel Mick”, thanked Elder Iwok for the honour done him and prayed God to bless him and his family. 

Highpoint of the occasion was the presentation of the keys of the Civic Centre to the Clan Head of Otoro, Obong Saviour Udofia by Elder Friday Iwok.
Receiving the keys, the Clan Head thanked Elder Friday Iwok for what he has done for the people of Otoro Clan in particular and Abak State Constituency in general.

Obong Udofia used the occasion to confer Chieftaincy titles on Elder Friday Iwok as Ujo Otoro I, his wife, Deaconess Grace Iwok as Uyai Eka Iban Otoro while Deacones Christy Obot, a grand daughter of the area bagged the title of Obonganwan Emem. 

The Clan Head expressed the hope that the second term of Elder Iwok in the State House of Assembly will attract more dividends of democracy to the area.
Responding on behalf of the honourees, Elder Friday Iwok thanked the Otoro Clan Traditional Rulers Council for the honour done them, stressing that it will encourage them to do more for the people of the area and humanity in general. 

The 5,000 capacity Otoro Clan Civic Centre named after Elder Friday Iwok has two well-furnished offices, executive tables, chairs and a generator.
The occasion which was described as the biggest gathering of personalities in the area, was attended by members of the foremost socio-cultural organizing in Otoro Clan, the Aru Otoro, youths and women groups as well as members of Otoro Clan Traditional Rulers Council. The Lebanon Brass Band added colour to the occasion with beautiful renditions. 

Some of the personalities who attended the  event included, Mr. Moses Ekpo, PDP Deputy Governorship candidate, Mr. Anioekan Umanah, Commissioner for Information and Communications, Pastor Praise Okon who attended the even as Director General, AKBC, but now Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Christy Obot, Chairman, EARCOM, Dr. Patrick Uko, Provost, College of Education, Afaha Nsit, Dr. Nkereuwem Etukudoh, Provost, Federal School of Medical Laboratory Science, Jos, Plateau State, Prince Inyang Inyang, a US-based philanthropist, Obong Udobong Mbeje, PDP Chairman, Abak, Barr. Aniekan Uko, Secretary Abak local government Council, former Council Chairmen, Councilors among others.
