Contrary to speculations that the Igbos in Akwa Ibom State has endorsed Udom Emmanuel in the forth-coming governorship election, the Apex Socio-Political Organization of Ndigbos in the State, the Ohanaeze Indigbo Youth Wing, has debunked such news, saying that they have not endorsed Udom.
In a released signed by its President General, High Chief Onyeoma Obi Nweke and publicity secretary, Onyeka Victor and made available to the Press, the group said “we have not endorsed Udom Emmanuel, as speculated in the media”.
The group warned impostors who have all along been using its name to play politics in the state to desist forthwith from the act as the law enforcement agencies have been notified of the development.
“In a meeting of all the 31 coordinators of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Wing in Akwa Ibom State held on Wednesday in Uyo, it was discovered that some people of Igbo extraction who are close to the corridor of power in the state have been using the name and insignia of Uhanaeze Ndigbo youth wing for their personal gains, a situation we abhor”, the release stated.
“Any person or group of persons using the name of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Wing in endorsing any governorship candidate in the State is a fraudster and will face the consequences of the law” the group said, adding that with a membership strength of over 30,000 members across the State, the group will at the appropriate time endorse candidates of its choice for the general elections.
“We are looking forward to partner any candidate who will carry the interest of the Igbos living in Akwa Ibom State at heart and when the time comes, the President General will go on air and in the newspapers to endorse the candidate of our choice and who the entire Igbos in the State will vote for as Governor of the State”, the group stated.
The release called on all Igbo youths living in Akwa Ibom State to eschew violence during the elections and to guide against any desperate politician who will want to use them for political thugry.
“Our votes can make a lot of difference and can shape the destiny of this State if we vote for a credible candidate. We must not sale our votes for Akara and moimoi money”, the release warned.
In a separate interview with our correspondent, Chief Onyeoma Obi Nweke a.k.a Ornatara Dike Mma said the Youth Wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Akwa Ibom will soon endorse a candidate for the gubernatorial election with a Royal Title of ENYI NECHE NDIGBO 1 of Akwa Ibom State.
He maintained that 85% of his members in the state are in possession of their Permanent Voters Card (PVC) and will be instructed to turn out enmass and vote for a governorship candidate in the good books of the youth group. He called on non registered members of the body to contact the publicity secretary on 08033639836 for details.
