Sequel to Dakkada creed, an initiative introduced by Governor Udom Emmanuel to spur Akwa Ibom people towards achieving greatness, an Akwa Ibom son has bagged a first class degree in Mechatronics Engineering from Bell University of Technology, Ota, set to get automatic employment.
Receiving the award during the 8th Convocation Ceremony of the University held recently in Ota, the recipient of the award Ifiokobong Promise Offiong who hails from Mkpat Enin Local Government Area expressed immense gratitude to God for academic success and his parents for the support he gained to become the first graduate to get a first class degree in Mechatronics since inception of the course in the department.
Speaking to newsmen, Ifiokobong Offiong, who acknowledged the development strides in the state, commended Governor Emmanuel for initiating Dakkada creed, noting that it is engrafted to inspire and reawaken the consciousness of the people to rise to greatness, against all odds, calling on youths to key into the initiative.
Describing Mechatronics Engineering as a synergistic blend of mechanical, electrical engineering and computer control and information technology, happiness to make the State proud by ranking best in the course.
According to the approval of the Senate, to retain first class graduate in the school, Ifiokobong Offiong is set to get an employment as graduate assistant on completion of his National Youth Service Corps Service.
In his address the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jeremiah Oludele Ojediran, paid tributes to his predecessors who piloted the affairs of the fledgling university from inception, and commended them for a solid foundation laid for the school saying “it is our responsibility to build upon that solid foundation and take Bell University forward into its second decade”.
Prof. Ojediran who congratulated the graduating students at the occasion, charged them to prove their mettle, having being equipped with entrepreneurial skills and work experience, to start their own enterprises and not to swell the population of unemployed graduates, he added.
Earlier, the Chancellor, Alhaji Ahmed Joda in an opening address applauded the eminent personalities who graced the occasion and thanked Bell University Parents Forum (BUPF) for sustainable contributions towards the orderly growth and development of the university.
Alhaji Joda said “Bell University is committed to ensuring sustainable qualitative education and vision to contribute knowledge and equip the young ones with the right skills and attitudes to contribute their quota to national development”.
A total number of graduands were 356 with 28 first class, 123 second class upper, 119 second class lower and 86 third class.
