2016 Ekid Congress: Council Boss emphasized brotherhood, Unity

The development of a strong bond of unity and brotherhood has been canvassed as the only panacea to the disunity, blackmail, sentiments and politics of calumny prevalent in Ekid nation, in order to achieve growth and project our society to enviable height amongst other ethnic nationalities within the state and the south south region.

The Esit Eket Transition Chairman, Hon. Iniobong R. Nnamso proffer these in his remarks at the just concluded 2016 National delegate congress of Ekid people’s Union at Uquo.

According to him, as a people of the same ancestral root, stock and heritage, the creation of political demarcation was conceived to bring government presence and dividend closer to the people and not reason to whip destructive sentiments between brothers.

’’The affinity we shared in the clans and sub-clans spread across Ekid nation should be the rationale to foster unity within the federal constituency as a reference point for others to emulate’’ Nnamso said.

’’The people of Etebi clan in Esit Eket, are the true brothers of Etebi clan in Eket. This is equally applicable to the people of Afaha, Idua, Assang, Abikpi, Oniok, etc clans in both councils. These clearly indicate that we are one and the same people’’. He averred.

The council boss sued for patriotism amongst the indigenes and warned them not to allow mundane consideration of nepotism to overshadow their sense of reasoning.’’Therefore, put your creative abilities to work for the overall development of Ekid nation as our home that is blessed with abundant human material resources’’, He advised.

In her contribution, the Akwa Ibom state of civil service, Mrs. Ekereobong Akpan applauded the leadership of the union for being resolute in their demand for emancipation, restoration and the development of Ekid Kingdom, as the wealth base of the nation.

Akpan represented by Mrs. Atim Ayangha, Permanent Secretary, State Secondary Education Board, noted that tremendous achievement have been recorded by the union, even as she called for renewed commitment, brotherhood and unity of purpose in the struggle of the much desired economic and socio-political emancipation of the Ekid people.

The National President, Prof. Asindi Asindi in an overview of his tenure restated the union remains apolitical but made up of patriots who are deeply concerned about the growth and development of the community.

He stated the union has opened and maintained constant link and communication with Ekid communities in major cities within the country and in the diaspora.

Asindi recalled the union has cultivated the Ekid ethnic consciousness and sense of belonging amongst us.

The re-elected president called on youth growth within the nation to partner with the union and contribute their quota to the growth and development of their communities and charged moribund youth association to rise to their responsibilities as patriotic citizens.

The university of Calabar don tasked incoming executives to keep the Ekid identity alive and well protected. He noted, ‘‘we cannot allow Ekid ethnicity to be relegated and overwhelmed by any group around us’’.

High point of the congress attended by elected representatives of the constituency in the State and National Assembly was the re-election of Prof. Asindi and some executives for another term.
