In line with Udom Emmanuel’s administration vision of promoting grassroot sports development, the Transition Committee Chairman for Abak Local Government area, Dr. Emmanuel Udosen has donated new set of jerseys to 10 Secondary Schools in Abak Local government Area.
Dr. Udosen who presented the jerseys to the Games-Masters of the benefiting schools on Tuesday at the Council Secretariat, said the donation was in fulfillment of his promise to donate jerseys to Secondary Schools in Abak for use in the ongoing Ati Annang Secondary Schools football competition.
The Transition Committee Chairman re-stated his administration’s readiness to engage the youths positively through active participation in sporting activities especially football. He pointed out that apart from being a unifying factor, sports can take the youths off the streets and make them to become useful and responsible citizens in future.
Dr. Udosen noted that some of the stars who are today making waves in world football started from grassroot competitions such as Ati Annang Secondary Schools football competition, stressing that Man City Kelechi Ihenacho who is earning millions of dollars weekly, emerged through grassroot competitions.
The Akwa Ibom Sports Chairman of the Year 2015 charged schools from Abak Local government Area to be disciplined and conduct themselves properly during and after the competition.
The Council boss who promised to be physically present at some of the match venues to cheer them up, called on them not to let the people of Abak down, but should make impact by winning the trophy back to Abak.
Dr. Udosen used the occasion to commend the organizers, Ati Annang Foundation for their initiative in instituting the competition which he noted will help to discover hidden football talents abound in Annang Land.
Responding on behalf of the benefiting schools, the Games Master of the Church of Jesus Christ Comprehensive Secondary School, Atai Otoro, Mr. Williams thanked the Transition Committee Chairman for the donation and promised that the schools will not disappoint the people of Abak at the Championship.
Mr. Williams solicited for the support of all to enable the schools make impact at the championship.
Present during the presentation was the Transition Committee Secretary, Mr. Udoette Ntion and other Council officials.
