Ikot Ekpene: Oron union celebrates 4th cultural day … Launches N20m Appeal fund

The sons and daughters of Oro ethnic group under the aegis of Oron Union, a socio- cultural organization rolled out drums to celebrate their 4th cultural day in addition appealed for N20 m fund for Oro house last Saturday, 5th Nov. 2016 at Col Utuk hall Ikot Ekpene.

In her welcome speech, the President Ikot Ekpene branch, Mrs Mercy Enang thanked all guests and the President general Dr. Effiong Edunam for coming to honor the branch invitation; she said she was honored as the first woman President since the creation of the branch in 1935. She thanked the Presidents for their legacies and promised to build upon it with the construction of Oro house in Ikot Ekpene. 


She also added the award given to the awardees today was based on their humanitarian supports to Oro development and promised to initiate more development to the branch.

Also speaking, Dr Effiong Edunam expressed delight with the developmental strides of Ikot Ekpene branch and called on other branches to emulate them. He stressed that Oron Union was not a political organization but a socio-cultural organization meant to chart the course of their people’s welfare therefore brotherhood is paramount in the union’s agenda. 

He promised to support the branch to actualize it secretorial plans.

Those presented with special awards includes, Dr. Effiong Edunam, Enidiok Okon, CP Asuquo Amba as the Obong Itai, Prince Idongesit Isong as Utuenikang Oron, while others who were given appreciation awards were, Elder Okwong Ataing, Dr. Edet Anwana, Insp. Okon Utok, among others. 

Mbok (wrestling) competition and cultural displays added spice to the occasion.
Other dignitaries at the event include, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, Elder Simon Uwah, supol Okon Edet, Mrs. Grace Emenyi, Mr. X-to among other guests.
