We wish to thank the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Deacon Udom Emmauel for his leadership strides in the State.
We wish to talk to the Governor through your mediums on the ill-fated poor ruining of sports by the immediate past Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Monday Ebong Uko.
Since he (Monty) became the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, he had banned Governor’s Cup in the State which was a yearly ritual where indigenous players were discovered.
He had shot-changed Athletes in the State, all monies belonging to athletes were not paid as approved.
We took a trip to Itam Sports centre recently where Syaye funds were spent by him through direct Labour, and the standard of work was below Governor’s expectation.
He appointed the FA Chairman, Mr. Emman Ibah on parochial basis run four clubs namely: Akwa Starlet, Ibom Angels, Ibom Youth and Coffin FC. Today, Akwa Starlet and Coffin are being relegated to the lower division of the league. We understand that the players of these teams are being owed salaries and match bonuses, whereas the allocations were received by Monday Uko monthly.
We understand also that he bought Coffin FC from the defunct Sharks FC, PH and funded the club with government resources (signatories for the purchase of Coffin FC were government officials).
The manner he was managing Akwa United fund as we gathered has made Mr. Paul Bassey to grumble in some occasions as Nse Ubeh did.
He operated the Ministry of Youth and Sports from his Hotel (Monty Suites).
Some months ago, armed attacked the Ministry cashier, (name with held) and catered away N20M of the Ministry, we gathered the said cashier was returning from the bank to his hotel, the case up till now, no one hears about it.
He was alleged to have boasted that the Governor MUST return him to Youth and Sports Ministry because of his huge investment projects.
He was also alleged of bragging that the Governor cannot drop him because of his financial contribution in the last election and the tribunals.
Mr. Uko is renovating his hotel now along Edet Akpan Avenue, Uyo.
His shoddy practices are creating serious problems in the Sports cycle in the State.
Staff of the Ministry were seen celebrating his exit few days ago.
We as concerned Sports people in the State are saying we don’t want him again in the Sports Ministry. Anybody that is in doubt of these alle gations should please investigate. BUT FOR US, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
