It was celebration galore last Wednesday as the people of Ikot Afanga in Essien Udim LGA rolled out drums to celebrate their August visitors, Mrs. Martha Udom and her FEYREP Ambassadors who were in the village to commission Madam Ikwo Matthew’s house, a widow, Initiated by Otuekong Nsikak Ekong, former member.
Addressing the joyous crowd, Otuekong Nsikak Ekong thanked Mrs. Udom, his wife, Helen Ekong who doubles as FEYREP president for partnering him to build a befitting two bedroom flat to the widow. He said, “though I am from Ikot Ekpene but women group paid me a courtesy visit from Essien Udim, begged for favour for the helpless widow which I obliged, today is history”, he concluded.
Also speaking, Mr. Helen Ekong, President, FEYREP ambassadors thanked Mrs. Martha Emmanuel for initiating FEYREP to assist the less privileged, she also thanked the husband for the gesture and promised to sustain the philosophy even as she donated wrappers to the widows.
On her part, the Governor’s wife expressed gratitude to Otuekong Ekong and FEYREP ambassadors for promoting FEYREP philosophy and challenged other well-meaning Akwa Ibomites to assist the less privileged in the society. She prayed for God’s blessings to the initiator and promised to touch more lives through the project. Mrs. Udom donated to the widow, Ikwo Matthew and other widows in the area.
In the same vein, the Chairman, Essien Udim Local Government Transition Committee, Barr. Paulinus Idio and wife donated food stuffs to the Governor’s wife and the widow, as well as the wife of the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Glory Umoren who donated household items like fridge, utensils, food items and cash to the widow.
Special highlight was the commissioning of the new building by Mrs. Martha Udom who handed back the keys to the widow amidst jubilations by the villagers.
