A former Federal Law maker has suggested the cultivation of a robust leadership nursery through innovative political skills with a well crafted support base, the creation of a transparent and acceptable leadership culture and ensure leaders are tenacious in their belief in procedure and institutions as key element that govern public life in a dynamic society.
Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, erstwhile representative of Eket Federal Constituency and spokesperson of the Green Chambers of the 6th National Assembly gave the recommendation in a congress lecture he presented at the 2016 congress of Ekid People’s Union at Uquo, Esit Eket Local Government Council.
He posit that, leaders must govern with sufficient accountability and faithfulness to establish laws and constitution to enhance legitimacy of the system and most institutionalize proper framework for growth and effectiveness in its leadership transition.
According to him, to restore our known history of a rich traditional heritage of a great leadership pool, Ekid Nation must ensure that standard guiding recruitment into titular, community and institutional representation must reflect capacity, integrity, education and worth, while the community ought to be openly and transparently governed.
The former Chairman, Media and Public Affairs of the Chambers regretted, Ekid nation have recently undertaken a descent into the darkness of lost identity and profane pursuit of truth, justice and fairness.
Eyiboh noted, Ekid nation will not pass the test of being described as a people that have benefited and consolidated on the gains of democracy as privatization of leadership project, political instability occasioned by clannish and primordial sentiment, weak political and public institutions, ineffective management of public finance and conversion of public trust to cesspool of corruption amongst other factors militates against the achievement of sustainable peace, development and democratic dividend of good democratic governance.
Eyiboh challenged the leadership of the union to prevail on the electorate to ensure the emergence of inspirational leaders that will guarantee peace and development in the community and thereby improve the living standard of the people.
Ealier in his state of the nation address, the National President of the group, Prof. Asindi Asindi discountenanced the wrong notion of lack of effective leadership in Ekid nation, averred, “I have also experienced lack of faithful, trustful and committed followership with mistrust, absence of brotherhood and unity amongst them.”
This vices makes it difficult for us as a people to develop and progress, maintained, “We can do better by adopting the change begins with me slogan as we work for the peace, socio-economic, cultural and industrial development of Ekid nation.”
The University don charged elected and appointed representatives in all spheres of life and career on the importance of selfless representation and implored them to interface with government to produce visible result that can lift us from this quagmire
