Obong University Inter-Secondary School Football Competition kicked off

The maiden edition of Obong University Inter-secondary schools football competition kicked off on Thursday, 17th November, 2016 at the mini stadium of Obong University, Obong Ntak, Etim Ekpo Local Government Area.

The football fiesta which is packaged by the Board of Trustees Obong University in collaboration with Etim Ekpo Football Council, is aimed at discovering football talents from secondary schools under Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District and will span through a period of one month.


At  the opening match, the chairman on the occasion, Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem,  immediate past commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment in the state, congratulated the management of Obong University for organizing the tournament, saying that football is the most lucrative activity that brings peace and unity among nations.  He encouraged the participating teams to be serious in their football career as well as academic pursuits, in order to achieve success.

In his remarks, the Chairman, Board of Trustees, Obong University, Professor Moses Akpanudo expressed delight for the successful kickoff of the  tournament.  He hinted that 62 schools are billed to participate in the tournament where the winners would cart away mouth-watering prizes.

Prof. Akpanudo thanked everyone for coming out, adding that the Obong University football tournament has come to stay, while expressing hope that more schools across Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District will come out to identify with the competition.

The winners of the tournament will go home with N250,000 cash prize, while the 2nd and 3rd positions will go home with N200,000 and N150,000 cash prize respectively.

At the end of the opening match, Nigerian Christian Academy defeated Obong Christian High School by 1 – 0 to qualify for the next round of the competition.
