Okon Ekanem bows out at 73
Funeral service was held last Friday by The Kingdom Citizens Internal Gospel Center, for late Mr. Okon Ekanem ,73, at Ata Essien Owok Essen , Essene in Ikot Abasi LGA.

According to his biography,he attended Saints Peter and Pauls school, Essene and  latter left for Kaduna for a vocational training in fashion and designing.
Upon the breakout of the Nigerian civil war,he joined the Army to fight for the unification of Nigeria. After the war, he served in the medical unit of the army. Okon also served as an athlete and won several laurels for his department until he retired voluntarily in 1979.Though he was friendly and social,Old soja was a strict and a disciplinarian per excellence.

He was a community builder and once served his community, Umo-Onyong  vilage as a vice chairman. He played active and significant roles in the politics of the area and was a foundational and unflinching faithful of the PDP in Essene and Ikot Abasi LGA.

Though Okon was born into the Apostolic church family, he didn’t wear religion on his sleeves but believed in God and his supremacy over all things

 He left behind a nonagenarian  mother, Mma Matilda, who celebrated her 90th birthday last December, a sister, Emelda Uko, Mssrs. Celestine Ekanem, Mfon Ekanem, Barr Uwem Ekanem and Aniekan Ekanem ,His wife, Affiong Okon Ekanem, seven children ,twelve grand children and a host of many others.

The funeral ceremony attracted a creamed of the society. Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Barr. Onofiok Luke, his counterpart who represents Ikot Abasi /Eastern Obolo State constituency, Hon. Uduak Odudoh, Members of Uyo Club 1935,THE PDP,NAS International, Forum or former elected local Government Chairmen, Paramount Ruler of Ikot Abasi, Edidem U. J. Ntuk Obom and others were all present.
