Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries of the items which include: food, wrappers and cash given to them by Chief Ukpanah, Mrs. Iquo Uduak thanked their host for expressing milk of human kindness to the poor and the needy, pointing out that he who helps the poor lends to God and prayed God for bountiful blessings to Chief Ukpanah and his family who have made the kind gesture an annual event. She pledged the loyalty and support to Governor Emmanuel administration and described the Governor as a long time family friend with sterling leadership qualities, maintaining that they stand by the April 11, 2015 divine mandate which was given to the State Chief Executive in a free and fair election.
Addressing the widows, Chief Ukpanah who is the immediate past Chairman of AKICORP and Special Adviser on Investment and industrialization thanked them for responding to the invitation in large number and advised them to remain virtuous women they have been noted for, and charged them to train their children in the way of the Lord, adding that those who, for some reasons, could not have formal education can acquire technical training and skills that can make them useful citizens to the nation. He highlighted some of the achievements of Governor Emmanuel and tasked them to be unflinching in their support to the government. He advised the women to keep their permanent voter’s cards (PVCs) in safe places as that is the only means they can use to exercise their franchise.
In his homily at the event, a Methodist Church cleric, Rev. Rock Ukpanah who preached on the theme: “God has not forgotten you” charged Christians to express kindness to the poor and the needy, especially the widows who have no one to care for them. Citing the Scriptures in Deut 14:28-29, Acts 16:1 and 1 Tim 5:3, Rev. Rock Ukpanah urged Christians to do as instructed by the by the word of God as there are manifold divine blessings. The man of God advised the widows to be consoled in the fact that Christ is their husband in faith, stating that they should always pray for their benefactor and those in authority thanked the host for providing a lifeline to widows has been an annual event for Chief Ukpanah who alongside his Wife, Mrs. Comfort Ukpanah played host to the widows on the New year day.
