PDP Political stake holders from Oro Nation have risen in strong defence and support of Mr. Udom Emmanuel as the duly elected Governor of Akwa Ibom State, saying that he is from Eket Senatorial District and a true son of Ibibio land. The stakeholders made this know at the weekend, when the gather to celebrate the 2015 Ekpo Cultural Competition, organised by the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Rt. Hon Victor Antai.
Speaking with our correspondent after the event, a former Leader of Urue Offong Oruko Legislative Council, Rt. Hon Edeke Edeke said “in the spirit of justice, equity, unity and fairplay we support the emergence of Mr. Udom Emmanuel as the governor”.
“It has been our dream to have a governor from Eket Senatorial District, which is why we applaud PDP for giving us the opportunity to produce a governor as the oil producing area, Governor Udom Emmanuel is our son and he is qualified to be the governor”.
He chided groups and individuals who have in the last few months risen against Udom Emmanuel who has so far proven to be a good and listening governor who has the best interest of the state at heart. “We condemn the recent spate of sponsored media attacks on the Governor by some individuals and some faceless groups”.
Continuing, he stressed that “their actions shows that they are afraid of Governor Udom Emmanuel’s intimidating credentials as someone who has achieve so much in life even while he was in the banking sector”.
Also speaking, the immediate past Vice Chairman of Udung Uko, Rt. Hon Okokon Bassey maintained that the emergence of Deacon Udom Emmanuel has led to inauguration of some life touching projects in Oro nation including the Awana Essin road, which was not passable at all for a long time and the inclusion of some youths of Oro extraction to go for training in power sector and agriculture.
On his part, the member representing Mbo State Constituency, Hon Samuel Ufuo noted that the essence of the competition is to create a channel of communication between the government and the masses and also foster unity, togetherness among the 5 local government areas of Oro Nation. He stressed further the competition will help to promote peace among villages in the area.
He used the opportunity to thank the Governor for appointing Rt. Hon Victor Antai into his cabinet and call on all to support him in his industrialisation policy of the state.
Also speaking, the Obong Ekpo of Urue Offong Oruku, Chief Victor Edem Umoh said Oro Nation will do everything possible to support His Excellency, Deacon Udom Emmanuel because he is a promise keeper and trailblazer, saying that “the mandate freely given to him cannot be taken away”. He thanked the Hon Victor Antai for organising the competition which according to him has reawaken the rich culture of Oro and urge all to join hands in support of PDP led government in the state.
On his part, the President of Oron All Stars Football Club, Dr Aniekan Umoh stated that the competition will help in engaging the youths in meaningful activities and would help to create a channel of communication between the government and the youths from the area and advised the youths to make good use of the opportunity and not to allow themselves to be used by some selfish politicians to cause trouble in the society.
Earlier in his remarks, the host, Rt. Hon Victor Antai, thanked the people for voting Mr Udom Emmanuel as governor during the last governorship elections and promised that the governor will not disappoint them but will keep to his campaign promises of industrialising the state. He used the opportunity to inform them of the governor’s readiness to complete the Ibom Deep Sea port as soon as possible and construction roads in the 5 local government areas of Oro Nation and advised them not support opposition party in the state, saying that “Akwa Ibom is a PDP state and will remain so”.
Highpoint of the competition was the presentation of trophy and Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (N250, 000.00) to Urue Offong Cultural Group who emerge the winner of the competition. Second prizes went to Odikor Cultural Group who went home with Two Hundred Thousand Naira (N200, 000.00) while the third prize went to Oduo Ebughu who were given One Hundred and Fifty Thousand (N150, 000.00). Afaha Akai cultural group, Akai Udo cultural group, Eweme, Umueme and Ubodung who took part in the competition went home with One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000.00) each.
