Pastor Tony Nsongurua |
Speaking with reporters, the host, Tony Nsongusua said that the purpose for the dinner was to bring the party leaders in the area to brain storm on the way forward as it concerns the expected guber election re-run in the state.
He disclosed that the on-coming re-run election is going to be a deciding factor in the political history of Akwa Ibom State. Emphasizing that the mandate of the people of the state which, according to him, was a stolen mandate will be recovered by APC represented in Umana Okon Umana who is the party’s governorship candidate.
The politician stated that the nullification of the April 11, election was the handwork of God and that the party and its hierarchy in the state, particularly, Uyo chapter is positioned to ensure that the purpose of God for the state is manifested and power and state wealth returned to the people.
Tony described Umana Okon Umana as a man who has vast experience in governance and meticulous in his activities. He said that what Umana wants is not just to be governor, but to redistribute the common wealth of the state which has been hijacked by some cabal in the state to the detriment of the vast populace.
Alluding to public opinion regarding the APC guber candidate, Tony Nsongurua subjected that Umana was a secretary to the state government and therefore he was inhibited by the policies of the state which was largely influenced by the governor. He pointed out that Umana was only dancing to an unfamiliar tune and that as the music has stopped, “… a better tune will be played by Umana when he becomes the state governor early this year.”
One of the dignitaries that spoke at the event, Hon. Stella Effiom, a one-time Uyo local government chairman said that the on-coming election should be viewed as the final stroke that will either free the state of Akwa Ibom from lawlessness, injustice, corruption and negligence of lives and property or mar it.
She told the party officers to be very pro-active and mobilize en-mass for the re-run and that they should be resolute in their collective will to take over power from political raiders.
Another speaker told the crowd of dinners that APC is confident of victory in Uyo, stressing that in 27 years, Uyo will be getting a first lady from Uyo proper for the first time telling his party members to beware of fake groups while promising to deliver 100% vote in Uyo to Umana.
Other party personalities and elders including, Chief Ekpene Ekpene, Ime Afia, chairman of chapter chairmen, state youth leader, Pius Ita Paul (alias Eberentre) spoke in the same vein.
High point of the event was a toast to the host by Chief Ekpene Ekpene.
