The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Eket Unit said it apprehended 26 traffic offenders and prosecuted three for violating traffic rules and regulation in the state. The Unit Commander of FRSC, Mr Lucky Ugenlo who disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Eket, said that the offenders were apprehended for various offences which include seat-belt and tyre violations.
“I don’t know why motorists and road users don’t obey traffic rules and regulation.
“Considering the public enlightenment we are carrying out in the communities, people still disobey traffic rules and drive carelessly in the community,’’ he said.
He lamented that in spite of the public sensitisation, people still procure fake drivers licenses in the state.
Ugenlo said that the command commenced operation zero tolerance patrol to ensure the free flow of traffic and less congestion on the highways.
According to him, the patrol cars and personnel are there to serve as cautionary instructors to motorists and when they site you, you should comply,’’ Ugenlo said. The Unit Commander said that the focus of the public enlightenment was to ensure there was no congestion and less crash or death on the highway during the yuletide season.
“The command is synergising with other unit commands to ensure free flow of traffic before the yuletide and New Year periods in its area of operations.
“During the yuletide period, there is less apprehension as we use operation zero patrol to enlighten people and encourage them to know that there is reasons for them to stay alive,’’ he said.
He said that the command carried out public enlightenment in some motor parks in its area of operations.
“We first of all approach them and talk to them to let them know how to obey traffic rules and regulations in the state,’’ he said.
He advised road users to be careful on the highways and drive safely during the yuletide season to stay alive adding that motorists should obey instructions on the roads.
