Accord Party Governorship Candidate, Bishop Samuel Akpan with wife, addressing his supporters ...recently
BY EMMANUEL AKPAN

Ahead of the much expected re-run election in the Akwa Ibom State, the governorship candidate of Accord party, Bishop Samuel Akpan has advised Governor Udom Emmanuel to start packing his loads out of the Government House, saying he will emerge the winner in the forthcoming re-run election. Bishop Akpan stated this last Thursday when he hosted his supporters to thank them for their support during and after the last general elections at his campaign office off 4 lanes, Uyo.

Bishop Akpan said Udom Emmanuel was not the right person for the hill mansion top job but he was imposed on people of Akwa Ibom State by his master, Godswill Akpabio. He recalled that back in the year 2006 he had fought all the oppositions to made Godswill Akpabio a governor, and Udom did not contribute anything to Akpabio’s emergence. He said the most painful part of it is that Akpabio paid him back with hate by bringing his account officer to impose on the people. “When I fought for Akpabio, what did Udom do for him? Akpabio has decided to pay me back with hate, wickedness and injustice, but God of heaven will stand by me. Let Akwa Ibom people stand and protect as well as vote for me in the forthcoming re-run.”
He stressed that the problem of the State is that of one family taking over the account of the State, alleging that since the resumption of office, Governor Udom Emmanel has converted all the accounts of the State to a single account and it is control by the Akpabios, a development which he pleaded with the people of the State to raise and stop it by voting Udom out of office during the re-run election. “One family cannot take us as slaves any longer. I remember on the 24th of October, 2014, I went to the State Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and I told them; I laboured and build the party you are now enjoying. I also told them that if they don’t give me the ticket, there will be no PDP in the State. Now the party has lost the blessing of God that is why the party has been destroyed from the top.”
The Bishop disclosed that his last meeting with former governor Godswill Akpabio in Abuja, he took time to advised him (Akpabio) to drop Udom Emmanuel as preferred candidate to avoid break up in the party, but Akpabio refused instead the former governor went ahead to single-handedly installed Udom as his successor which he said has brought a serious break amongst the PDP family and the State in general.
He took the people back to the memory lane which he hinted his intention to contest the governorship seat started with a massive movement in 2002 which was popularly known as Akwa Ibom Peoples Forum (AKPF) and his plans was that when he becomes the governor, he would ensure that the poor ones as well as those who are not part of comforts and happiness, live a better life in the State.
He recalled how he single-handedly used his massive movement (AKPF) to install Godswill Akpabio as governor in 2007 we great hope and expectations but it never come to pass, adding that he cannot fault anybody but regretted that the government of Godswill Akpabio as governor started in the wrong part. In his words “The government of Akpabio started with what was called uncommon, till the uncommon issue happened finally and produced uncommon successor and therefore uncommon successor became his account officer that he decided to make uncommon governor, today that uncommon governor has been rejected uncommonly. Since Udom Emmanuel has been rejected uncommonly, Akpabio will now realize that he was wrong.”
He said former governor Goswill Akpabio would have been right if he had chosen him as his successor, after he had suffer and took risk to give him total support during and after the 2007 and 2011 elections. He recalled “I remember that day in 2006 when the Annag people were at Abebure Afaha Obong, they wanted to pick one as the governor of their choice. But then he (Akpabio) did not arrive early, when he arrived at Abebure Afaha Obong as at past 7pm by that time the canopies were removed and the seat had been folded and nobody was at the venue. I rushed him again to the car and took him back to his house at A-line 151, Ewet Housing. He (Akpabio) went upstairs to his room and started to weep and I told Akpabio weep not by brother because God has instructed me to deliver you as governor. From that time, the trouble and labour was mine, you all know the rest of the story.” He revealed.
Bishop Akpan expressed optimistic that he is not bothered whether Akpabio has rejected him or not, but that his good works will stand by him in the forthcoming re-run governorship election in the State.
The Accord party candidate used the opportunity to debunked rumours going round the State that he had stepped down as well as declared his support to the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Obong Umana Okon Umana, saying he only partner with the APC candidate at the tribunal to have a collective victory and that he did not negotiate the future of governance of Akwa Ibom State with the APC or even Umana.
Akpan noted that there is nothing like agreement that would make him to step down for an-Uyo son in the APC to govern the State when the seat was rightfully zoned to Eket Senatorial District, adding that those rumours are mere propaganda. He used the opportunity to advised Umana Umana to wait till the seat is zone again to Uyo Senatorial District in future. “Umana should come and join me for us to win together just like I gave him support at the tribunal. I would have loved Umana to remain a statesman and not a selfish politician.”
He promised to make a different if elected as governor of the State by turning things around for good for the people of Akwa Ibom State. He thanked his supporters for their steadfastness, dedication and commitment during and after the elections. The Accord Party candidate urged his supporters not to apportion blames on anybody as it relate the outcome of the last elections but they should go back and mobilise for the forthcoming re-run in the State even as he expressed confidence that he will come out victorious in the election.
