Christened Usi Akpakip Mani Oro In Solidarity, the body which is made up of outstanding women leaders across Oro, during their New Year get-together vowed to put in place relevant machineries to confront the nagging issue of girl abuse and denials of female youths.
Speaking at the event which attracted hundreds of prominent women in the area, the president of Usi Akpakip Mani Oro In Solidarity, Dr (Mrs) Agnes Antai posited that if women in their different vocations, professions and trades could afford to come together and champion the crusade against series of established cases of abuse of the girl child, then the monster now raring its head in all nooks and crannies of Oron Nation would either be eliminated or reduced maximally.
Dr. (Mrs.) Antai who urged the leaders and members of the organization to expect lots of innovating activities by the association also affirmed that concerted efforts would be made in 2016 to solicit the cooperation and partnership of other groups in Oro Nation, Akwa Ibom State as well as the country to the agenda of Usi Akpakip Mani Oro In Solidarity to an enviable height and level.
Also speaking, a frontline woman activist and educationist in Oro, Hon. Mrs. Ikwo Iniette hinted that empowerment packages for members of the organization will soon be unveiled and expressed enthusiasm that the founding members of the group were very determined and resolute in upholding the aims and objectives of the body.
Hon. (Mrs.) Iniette, a one-time special adviser on Women Affairs, Youth and Chieftaincy Matters in Oron Local Government, disclosed that aside from an envisaged skill acquisition centre for the Usi, total approach and consistency to improve the livelihood of women in and outside Oro Nation would be pursued vigorously.
At the well attended gathering, the Usi Akpakip Mani Oro In Solidarity also espressed their pleasure over the emergence of President Mohammed Buhari as Nigeria’s Head of State, Deacon Udom Emmanuel as Governor of Akwa Ibom State as well as the elected and appointed representatives of the people in different tiers of government. In attendance among other prominent women leaders in Oro were the public relations officer of the group Dr. Nemine Amba; the Treasurer Lady Idorenyin Essang; the organizing secretary, Mrs. Ukpong Owowo; Welfare Officer, Mrs. Bassey Anwana Timothy; and the Financial secretary, Mrs. Mercy Okon, among others.
