After a patient wait and fervent prayers, members of the G22 have had a major breakthrough in the battle for the soul of Akwa Ibom State 2015. This follows the confirmation of their request to meet with President Goodluck Jonathan to air their views on the outcome of the election that saw to the emergence of Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel as the PDP standard bearer for Akwa Ibom State Gubernatorial election.
THE INK gathered from credible sources that the Nsima Ekere led G22 is confirmed for a meeting with the President on Monday at the Villa. A source in the G22 confirmed this report to our reporter very late last night. Our source said, “My brother, the President is meeting with us on Monday at the Villa, and we will be going there to tell Mr. President the true situation of things as regards the politics of Akwa Ibom PDP”.
The determination and the assurance from the presidency that G22 will be meeting with Dr. Jonathan is said to have seriously rattled the Akpabio and Udom's camp who are having sleepless nights as to what will be the outcome of the meeting. A source said, the Udom team are praying that the President should not condescend to the demands of members of the G22 even as the aggrieved governorship aspirants are positing that the President will heed their call and asked for a consensus arrangement that will lock Udom out of contention. As at last night, it was not very clear were the pendulum of victory will swing to as Presidential aides who volunteered information to our reporter refused further comments on the matter asking our reporter to get across to the National chairman of the Party, Alhaji Adamu Mua'zu.
On further investigations, our reporter learnt that the National Chairman of the PDP had since travelled to Singapore and may likely be back by this weekend to attend to pressing party demands especially issues that arose as a result of the just concluded PDP gubernatorial nomination exercise in states.
Meanwhile, our reporter gathered that the Appeal panel that visited Akwa Ibom state had failed to submit the result of the true position of things in the state to the President. Investigations reveal that the panel either doctored the report to say there were no problems or that they failed outright to let the presidency know of what was happening in the state. A source said the president was even quoted to have said, he is not aware of any problem that arose during and or after the PDP ward congresses and nomination exercise in Akwa Ibom State.
But with the President now loaded with the information of the many problems in Akwa Ibom PDP and his resolve to meet with the aggrieved parties on Monday, it is becoming clearer that the battle may soon be over. What pundits are waiting to see is how this logjam will be resolved whether the G22 will win or whether Udom will win. The initial meeting with the Presidency on Monday will tell.
