In line with the cardinal objectives of her pet project, the wife of the Governor Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Akpabio has in the spirit of the season reach out to motherless homes and hospitals with food stuffs worth millions of naira in the three senatorial district of the state.
In Uyo senatorial district, the Governor's wife delegation led by the Hon. Commissioner for Education Prof. Atim Antai visited the Uyo prisons where the deputy controller of Uyo Prisons Rev. Ben Freedman received the entourage.
Presenting the donations on behalf of the wife of Governor, Prof Atim Antai said it was a token from the mother of the state for the inmates of the prisons asking the prisons command to use to the benefit of the wards.
Responding, the DCP in-charge of Uyo, Rev. Ben Freedman thanked the wife of Governor for the largess and promised to use the gifts items judiciously. He also appreciated the Governor for his continued support for those behind bars and prayed God to guide the first family.
Another port of call was the Government special children centre, IBB way, Uyo. Presenting the food stuffs on behalf of the wife of Governor, the wife of Ibesikpo LGA chairman, Mrs. Imaobong Ekpe James said the gifts were in line with Her Excellency's passion in putting smiles on faces. Responding on behalf of the matron of the home, Mrs. Mandu Essien appreciated Mrs. Akpabio for the continued show of love for the not so privilege and prayed God to sustain the work of her hands. A beneficiary of the home, Miss. Abigail Edet on behalf of other children of the home offered prayers for the wife of Governor and the Governor.
Also visited were the Daughters of charity St. Vincent De Paul where the matron in-charge Sister Bibiana Duru thanked the Governor's wife for the donations. She appealed to the government to help in the expansion project of the home so as to accommodate more patients.
Homes and hospital visited in Uyo senatorial district also included the VVF hospital, Mbribri Itam, Mother Charles Walker Children's Home, Nwainba road, Lutheran children's Home, Ikot Otong Nsit, Nsit Ibom, Qua Iboe church Leprosy Hospital, Ekpene Obom, Etianan as well as the Children Correctional Reform Centre, Aka road. On the delegation were wife of Essien Udim LGA chairman Mrs. Nene Ntuen, wife of Oruk Anam chairman, Mrs. Edima Akpan, and wife of Ibeno Chairman, Mrs. Grace Ekpe
In Ikot Ekpene Senatorial district, the delegation led by the wife of the Hon. Commissioner for Environment and Mineral Resources Mrs. Inemesit Uwah visited Holy Family Children's Home, Ikpe Ikot Nkon, in Ini LGA where food stuffs ranging from bags of rice and beans, toiletries, tubers of yams etc. were given on behalf of the Governor's wife.
Also visited by Her Excellency's entourage were St. Joseph seminary, Ikot Osurua, Holy Chid Generalate children's Home Ifuho and St Louis centre for deaf and dump, Ifuho.
Not left behind were also the Government Children's Home Chubb Road, Ikot Ekpene Prisons, St. Joseph Rehabilitation centre, Ukana Iba Gospel village, Abak as well as Abak Prisons. Also on the entourage were wife of commissioner for youth and sport, Mrs. Blessing Monday, wife of commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mrs. Glory Afangideh, wife of commissioner for finance Mrs. Queen Okon and Mrs. Edemma Ntukudeh, wife of commissioner for transport.
In Eket senatorial district, the team led by the wife of speaker AKHA, Mrs. Mary Ikon visiited Eket prisons. Receiving the team, the chief superintendent I.O Agomo thanked the wife of Governor for the visit, saying it will be used judiciously for the inmates. One of the inmates who have spent over 25years pleaded for pardon for those who have spent decades in the prison, promising never to go back to their old ways.
Other places visited in Eket senatorial district by the team included Psychiatric Hospital, Motherless Home, Mkpok and Ikot Abasi Prisons. Accompanying the speaker's wife were the wife of deputy speaker, Mrs. Ime Udo Kierian, wife of member representing Ukanafun state constituency, Mrs. Unyime Akpan and wife of member representing Etim Ekpo/Ika state constituency Mrs. Dorcas Toby
