Urue Offong/Oruko Political Leader anoints Hon. Nkereuwem Enyongekere

In a bid to create sanity and streamlined things politically in his domain, the Rt. Hon.(DR.) Esio Oquong Udoh, the political leader of Urue Offong/Oruko Local Government Area on Monday July 31, blessed and commissioned the candidacy of Hon. Nkereuwem Enyongekere, a PDP Chairmanship hopeful in his local government area.

Chief Esio Udoh, a two-time member of the Green Chambers gave his paternal blessing in Uyo when a massive crowd of Hon. Nkereuwem Enyongekere’s supporters thronged   his domicile for consultation.

The consultation team christened “ENYONGEKERE DIVINE INTERVENTION CAMPAIGN NETWORK”(EDICAN)was  led by highly respected leaders of thought in the local government area  amongst them, were:

Chief Okpo Uweh(Okete-Okete Oro),Elder(Chief) O. U. Bassey, Sir. Nukak  Offong Ante(KJW),Chief Eyo Asukwo Eyo(Akpaha Oro),Professor Edet Effiong Nkereuwem, Engr. Chief Effiong Otu, Chief O. O. Obukho, Elder Uweh Unomieta, Elder Ulo James Uko.

In his presentation, the Chairman of the team, Sir. Nukak  Offong Ante said:”You’re our leader in Urue Offong/Oruko. We know you believe in excellence. Hon. Nkereuwem  Enyongekere seated here is the best of all the aspirants, so we present him to you. We had earlier been here and still want to reiterate our stand.”

Corroborating the Chairman submission, the director general of the group, Chief Okpo Uweh (Okete-Okete Oro) intimated the former parliamentarian on the essence of their visit. Hear him:”We deem it fit to be here to consult you.

 Oro nation respects you. All these people have come here to see you because you deserve respect. You have a message from Urue Offong/Oruko people whose cross-section you have seen here. The message is that Hon. Enyongekere is the man wanted by the people. The message is that Ward (111),of all the Wards in the Local Government Area, is the only one that have neither produced a Council Chairman nor State Assembly member since the creation of Urue Offong/Oruko,hence their turn to do so.”


Chief Okpo Uweh likened Dr. Esio Udoh to an oil palm tree whose entire component is of great economic value. He said Chief Udoh could not be ignored by the team in its quest to attain political power in the area comes November 11 and promised to depend on Dr. Udoh’s wise counsel throughout its tenure when supported to win.   

Also speaking, the Chairmanship hopeful, Hon. Nkereuwem Enyongekere subsumed his all-encompassing blueprint into a four point agenda namely:
(1)Moral Engineering and Social Reconstruction

(2)Business/Entrepreneurial Skills Education/Training
Establishment of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMSE)
Updating and upgrading of local crafts into modern cottage factories (Iyara, Ikibin, Ukeng, Ukarikpo, Akwang, Akwa etc.)To serve as veritable tools for employment.
Aggressive Agricultural Programmes.

(3)Urban and Rural Community Development(establishment of Wards Technology Parks, Tourists Cape Districts, Stadium, Abattoir, Guest House, Street naming/opening of new Roads.)

Creation of conducive climate for tricycle transportation, trade, commerce and banking activities.

(4)Citizens assembly/Welfare for youths, aged, women, elders, leaders of thought, students, children and applicants. He implored the political leader to stand by him for a total transformation of the area.

In his response, the political leader of Urue Offong/Oruko Local Government Area said governance meant the allocation of scarce resources, hence could not be left in the hands of neophytes and inexperienced individuals but those who have weathered the storms of the game like Hon. Enyongekere. Dr. Udoh said he had known Hon. Enyongekere in politics for more than twenty years and added that he believed God was going to raise him up this time around.

 He described Hon. Enyongekere as a great man owing to the courage he has displayed even in the face of daunting challenges. Chief Udoh enjoined him to leave a footprint when God enthrones him as He was about doing so.

“For you to convince all these people to follow you means you have been accepted by the people. What the people accepts, God accepts. The masses will choose you. Go ahead and do your best in Urue Offong/Oruko.”

The director general of EDICAN, Chief Okpo Uweh (Okete-Okete Oro) thanked Dr. Udoh for his warm reception and prayed God’s blessing upon him.

The Enyongekere Divine Intervention Campaign Network equally on the same day, consulted   Hon. Uno Etim Uno, a former State legislator where he received his blessings. Hon. Nkereuwem Enyongekere had entreated Hon.Uno Etim Uno to work with him and pledged to bring probity, accountability and transparency in the local government administration, pledging to accommodate all interests.

While responding, Hon.Uno Etim Uno described the Chairmanship hopeful as a marketable product.”The respect l have for you is why l am here to receive you.”He remembered with gratitude how Hon.Enyongekere had supported him in his quest to the State House of Assembly and promised to stand by him. EDICAN had earlier consulted Chief Mrs. Atim Okpoyo, wife to the former deputy governor, Sir. Etim Okpoyo at the ancient littoral town of Oron before moving to Uyo.
