As Akwa Ibom State heads towards its Local Government Council election on November 11, Nsit Atai political chieftains are seeking to gain advantage they can by instilling justice and equality for a free, fair and transparent election among the existing three group of villages in the area.
The enthusiastic decision was reached by the State Commissioner for Economic and Man Power Development, Hon. Idoreyin Sunday Udoh, a son of the area, during the just concluded Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders meetings across the 31 Local Government Areas of the State.
Hon. Udoh maintained that Nsit Antai from time immemorial is known for its three distinctive ancestry of Afaha, Ibedu and Ibiaikot group of villages and called on stakeholders from the area to embrace the ancestral arrangement of equity, justice and fair play as preconditions for sustainability of good governance and peaceful co-existence, especially with local government council election at the corner.
The Commissioner’s decision may have emanated from the rumoured purported creation of six geo-political zones by some disgruntled politicians in the area, in an attempt to cause disharmony and disaffection among the peace loving people of Nsit Atai Local Government Area.
It could be recalled, Ibedu people some time ago, under the auspicies of Ibedu Youth Assembly (IBEYA) in a communique reached at the end of its general meeting had affirmed Nsit Atai Local Government Area as having the composition of three ancestral groups and geo-political zones of Afaha, Ibedu and Ibiaikot, where Traditional Rulers Council, customary Court composition in general practice and political offices has always rotated amongst the three ancestral and geo-political leanings.
Reacting to the purported document the body in its communique observed that the originators of such ungrusome document are distractors fighting against the existing peaceful cohabitation of the three group of villages and urged them to refrain from such acts for the common good of the people.
In their words “ The purported document being brandished about by these self serving politicians in which they claim to be guiding document in zoning political offices had since its inception never been implemented because of its ambiguity and fraudulence and this said document had gathered dust in the shelves of time for over 12 years.....”
“That we advise these group of persons and their cohorts to desist from further carrying out actions that are meant to marginalise and malign us as a people of Ibedu in whatever guise”
“That people so malignantly treated could readily constitute a fertile breeding and recruiting ground for rebellion.” They warned!
Also, going down the memory lane, Governor Udom Emmanuel had last year harped on eradicating internal impunity within the ruling party in the State, it was based on this premise, that the immediate past Special Adviser to the Governor on Political and Legislative Affairs, Rt. Hon. Anietie Etuk invited stakeholders from the three group of villages to his office on separate occasions for fair hearing towards putting lasting solution to the lingering anomaly.
It seems the long embattled geo-political zones crisis shall soon come to an end before 2017 local government election of the State as the Commissioner has stepped in towards setting the records straight.
