A new chapter has just been opened in the oil industry in Mbo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. The Oriental Energy Limited has keyed into the usual international practice where oil companies are expected to invest back to where they take oil from the host community based on moral persuasion. That is what Oriental Energy Resources is trying to do by putting up this 100 housing units for the people of Mbo. So, we appreciate Dr Muhammadu Indimi for this laudable initiative.”
The above is a reaction from Barr. Asuquo Okpo, an Oil business mogul from Mbo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State and aspirant to the Office of the Akwa Ibom State Governor in 2019.
Okpo stated this at the venue of the ground breaking by the Oriental Energy Resources Ltd. in Mbo, where the company has commenced the process of siting 100 units one-bedroom flats on a 2.5 hectares of land which is expected to have world class infrastructural facilities, including a shopping mall.
Barr. Okpo noted that humanity is always interested with three hierarchy of needs of which shelter was among, pointing out that such a gesture was “just the beginning of the fruition of his oil struggles in his life, while believing that the development would give his people confidence in his capacity.
His words, “There are three hierarchy of needs. This is going to provide shelter at affordable rates to the people. It is a good development. For me as a person, this is just the beginning of the dreams I started some years back. I have been to prisons. The police have arrested me severally; the government has said I’m stubborn. But I am very happy today to see this. When I started the struggle to say that Mbo Local Government is oil producing, we were not taken seriously. We started talking to the people, presenting documents to prove our claims and they started coming. I must say that I am the happiest person. So, my people will now believe in me that once I have a dream, that dream must come true.
While performing the ground breaking, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel who was represented by the Speaker, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Barr. Onofiok Luke assured the company that the state was ready for partnership.
Governor Emmanuel said Alhaji Indumi was making more life touching programmes for the people, commending him and his lieutenants for embarking on the project which would have economic impacts in the life of the people.
Deacon Emmanuel called on the Oriental Energy Resources to work towards sitting her corporate office and oriental refinery in the area in the future, thanking the Enwang people for accepting the positive gesture and asking them to be alive to the responsibility of watching after and securing the project.
Earlier in his address, the Chairman, of the Company, Alhaji (Dr) Muhammadu Indimi, flanked by the Managing Director, Oriental Energy Resources, Ignatius Ifelayo and other Principal and Managing Staffers of the company, thanked the Governor of the State, the Speaker and the people of the host community for their cooperation listing out the various corporate social responsibility.
