Information Commissioner tasks EARCOM on sensitization

The State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Charles Udoh has charged the newly constituted board of Ethical and Attitudinal Re-orientation Commission (EARCOM) to heighten public enlightenment of the people on government policies, programmes, and achievements of Governor Udom Emmanuel-led administration.

He gave this charge during a courtesy visit on him by members of the Commission in his office, on Wednesday 26th July, 2017.

The Information Boss said, it was imperative for the Ethical and Attitudinal Re-orientation Commission to be in the forefront of sensitizing the people on government activities as well as embark on aggressive attitudinal re-orientation campaign for positive behavioral change.

Udoh urged EARCOM to focus on the attitudinal re-orientation of the people and called on various government departments and agencies charged with this responsibility to work collectively in the campaign for re-orientation of the people.
The Commissioner said, Governor Udom Emmanuel has performed creditably in infrastructural development across the state and has provided enabling environment for foreign direct investment to strive in the state.


He stressed that Industries established in the state such as; the Syringe Manufacturing Company, Electric Metering Plant, Flour Mill among others will create employment and business opportunities,  improve standard of living of the people as well as boost the economy of the State.

He further stated that despite the economic recession in the country, the state government is paying workers’ salary promptly, spend over 600Million naira annually on WAEC fee for students in secondary schools across the state, and provides free medical services for children under 5 years, pregnant women and the aged.

Mr. Udoh advised Akwa Ibom people to put away sentiments and biases, and support the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel in his drive to transform the State to an industrial hub.  

The Chairman, Ethical and Attitudinal Re-orientation Commission, Dr. Mrs. Dorothy Thompson, speaking on behalf of the Commissioners thanked Governor Emmanuel for their appointment, assuring that they will work as a team to ensure that the Commission is rejuvenated.

She solicited the support of the Information Commissioner to accomplish the goals of the Ethical and Attitudinal Re-orientation Commission.

Also Speaking, the Director of EARCOM, Mrs. Margaret Edem assured that the management of Staff of the Commission was determined to carry out its responsibilities diligently.

Present at the event, were the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Pastor Praise Okon, Commissioners and management staff of EARCOM and Directors in the Ministry.
