A commercial motorcyclist popularly known as Akamankpo was today knock dead by a Nigerian Police Hilux at Ring Road Junction, Aka Etinan Road, Uyo.
The Police Hilux with the plate number 11Z12FG which was on top speed according to eyewitnesses lost control while avoiding collision with a moving Julius Berger Company’s Hilux eventually hits the motorcyclist riding on an opposite lane of the junction.
An eyewitness, Mr Francis Eking who is a resident of the area described the accident as unfortunate accounting that the “Police Hilux was an escort for a car and it was on top speed, so the Hilux suddenly held a break while trying to avoid one Julius Berger Hilux coming from NTA Aka Etinan axis of the road. The front tire burst, and the Hilux Jam a little part of the Berger’s Hilux. With that speed the car flew to the other side of the Ring Road junction Leading to Akpabio Stadium, and killed the bike man who was patiently waiting to get moving order by the Police Traffic warder.
Another eyewitness, Mrs Grace Ekanem who spoke confidently on the victim’s carefulness while riding put the blame of the accident the Nigerian Police force, saying they where on an unnecessary top speed on a busy junction.
Her word’s “They didn’t even slow down because they drove with siren now they have caused a problem to the family of the deceased, but nothing happened to the drivers of the two Hilux. They have killed that young dark man who is popular for his neatness and carefulness while riding.
It so sad”
They had called on security personnel to always drive with care recalling a similar incident that occurred in the junction by a Police moving Hilux knocking down a commercial motorcyclist three weeks ago.
The effort of angry resident to set ablaze the condemned Police Hilux proved abortive following the effort of a special agent of the Nigerian Police Response Squad popularly known as SARS.
While filling this report it was gathered that the unconscious body of the victim was rushed to the hospital and the Sayang motorcycle was left condemned.
