Peace has finally returned to Ikot Obio Ndoho with the emergence of Obong Friday Akpan as the new Village Head of the community after defeating his opponent Obong Ukut by a landslide margin.
Peace has finally returned to Ikot Obio Ndoho with the emergence of Obong Friday Akpan as the new Village Head of the community after defeating his opponent Obong Ukut by a landslide margin.
The election which was held at TRC Complex in Mkpat Enin Council Headquarters witnessed a large turnout of Ikot Obio Ndoho indigenes who came out to witness the election.
Speaking shortly after the election, the new village thanked his people the love and support and pledged to work for the development of his village. “I thank my people who came here to witness this historic day, the will of the people has certainly manifested. As a village head I am the father of the community and as such I must be fair to all my children”.
The Paramount Ruler of Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, Edidem Akpan Akpan Ekpene in his remarks congratulated Obong Akpan for emerging winner while offering him words of advice. H equally urged the losing side to work with the newly elected Village Head for the growth and progress of Ikot Obio Ndoho Village and Mkpat Enin at large.
The Paramount Ruler also revealed that the exercise had to be settled by the Traditional Rulers Council since the family heads of Ikot Obio Ndoho could not appoint Village Heads themselves citing the Akwa Ibom State Traditional Rulers Edict of 1990 as a reference point that elections should be done in such cases.
Speaking with our reporter, a cross section of Ikot Obio Ndoho idigenes prayed for God’s Wisdom and guidance on the new village. Obong Okon was the most popular candidate and his victory didn’t come as a surprise to them because he had everything to lead the community successfully and I believe our village is in safe hands” they also promised to support him to succeed in all angles.
They also satisfaction on the outcome of the contest and described him as a reflection to the wishes of the village.
Also speaking chief Ukut who also eyed the stool promised to respect the decision of the TRC, “The Traditional rulers Council have spoken and we all have to respect the decision”.
