Additional financing have been presented with their certificates of graduation by the state governor, Mr Udom Gabriel Emmanuel with a call on them to put their training into practice so that they could reap from the sweat of their labour.

Governor Emmanuel who was represented by the state commissioner for agriculture at the occasion commended the graduate trainees for their industry; resilience and commitment that saw them come out successfully at the end of the training and assured them that his government will give them the necessary support to succeed in their chosen career.

He said the occasion as the climax of a new generation of farmers in the state adding that he was impressed by the conduct of the trainees

He charged them not to misuse the opportunity offered them by Fadama stressing that in these era of scare resources it was very wrong for people to gamble with opportunities that comes their hence the need for them to cultivate the habits of having good intensions towards what they want to do insisting that with good intensions, sacrifices and hard work, God will surely propel them to the pinnacle of success.

He promised to do everything within the ambit of the lean financial of the government to make sure that the Fadama programme does not fail stating however that the success of the first  graduating  set will determine the future of those coming behind them.

Earlier, the state chairman, technical committee on food sufficiency, Professor Edet Udoh had commended the state government, the World Bank, Fadama and other stakeholders for their contributions towards the employment drive of Akwa Ibom youths.

He disclosed that the state joined Fadama about a year ago and was presently ranked as one of the best  in terms of project utilization. 

He charged the beneficiaries to prove to the society that they were certified farmers by imbibing the spirit of farmers who according to him stay outdoors in the field  from where they get something to build their homes.

“ You have been empowered , put into practice what you were taught and from there God will bless the work of your hands and make you successful.”

Also speaking, the state project coordinator Fadama III additional Financing, Mr. Richard Sam appreciated the state government for making it possible for  the trainees to undergo the training averring that it has taken so many graduates out of the job market .

He commended the trainees for their zeal and assured them that Fadama will not only stop at training them but will also carry out monthly supervision and monitoring to assess their progress adding that the result of their progress will be send to the World Bank .

He disclosed that Akwa Ibom state was among the 23 states of the federation that benefited from the project and that 476 graduates applied for the training programme which was done online with 300 coming out successful after the screening exercise. 

Responding on behalf of the trainees, Mr Mkereuwem Bassey thanked God for the opportunity given to them and promised to reciprocate the gesture by putting the training into practice.

He particularly commended the state governor for giving them hope again after so many years of graduation averring that he has not only given them hope nut also food on their table and money in their pockets.

Bassey said they were hungry and ready to farm in order to increase food in the state thereby reducing the level of hunger and unemployment.

He appealed to the state government to find way and accommodate the remaining 100 trainees who will not benefit from the World Bank grant which is meant for only 200 of them.
