Udung Uko PDP Elders Forum reposition for credible, transparent LG polls

Concrete steps to ward off possible imposition of candidates in the forthcoming local government council elections in Udung Uko, the Elders Forum of the ruling People Democratic Party has resolved to collaborate with the statutory key players to forestall a situation where only an individual or cabal pick and “install” surrogates as Council Chairman or Councillor.

This was the collective decision of the Elders of PDP in a brain storming general meeting last Sunday at the residence of the Chairman of the Forum, Chief (Engr) Asukwo E. Idung, were the nagging and re-occurring issue of narrow consultation, unpopular candidates as well as disposition  of energy and bloated campaign expenses were extensively discussed.

Setting the tone for the gathering, Chief (Engr) Idung lamented and cautioned against exhibition of selfish interests and flaggarent display and abuse of collective wishes of the electorate.

Chief Engr Idung who commended the members for remaining steadfast, focused and visionary also enjoined them to employ the wealth of experience in ensuring that the November 11 local government election produces consensus and acceptable team players that would eventually enact responsive and masses-oriented administration in Udung Uko Local Government Area.

He expressed delight that wisdom prevailed in the documented zoning arrangement which sealed the turn in favour of zone B and Edikor in particular and encouraged the Elders and Stakeholder from Edikor to leave no stone unturned in the process of unanimously presenting a popular and acceptable candidate whose pedigree and antecedent could be vouched for any moment.

Others who spoke in the same vain at the well attended meeting which kicked-off after an inspirational prayer by an ordained Elder of the Methodist Church, Elder Jimmy Orok, the likes of Elder Edet E. Bassey, popularly known as Jimmy London, Chief Francis Eyikang also known as World Bank, Teacher Esifa, Dr Bernard Inwang – the Secretary of the Forum, Mr. Edet Ben Esifa, Bishop Owowo, Mr. Sylvester Medekong, Prince Albertson Atanang.

Expressing disgust over the naked marginalization of Udung in the spread of political appointments and needful patronage the Elders Forum advocated an urgent redress of the ugly and worrisome slant. They all spoke of the need to introduce once more extreme sanity into the political system in Udung Uko terrain even as they solicited unity of purpose in expressing the will and aspiration of the electorate in full participation in the ongoing voters registration, and acquisition of National ID Card.

High point of the meeting was an unanimous vote of confidence on the Execution of the five point agenda of Governor Udom Emmanuel especially the area of road construction, industrialization policy and agricultural revolution which holistic implementation has started yielding remarkable results.

While lauding the Governor over the recent award of contract for the rehabilitation of Udung Uko / Edikor Road, member solicited excellent job.
