Saturday 5th August 2017 will remain indelible in the minds
of the officers of Peace Corps Akwa Ibom State Command, as they had so much to
thank God for, as they sand and made prayers.
The visiting Clergy Pastor Utibe-Abasi Usoro who spoke on
the theme: “God is Never Late” encouraged the officers of the Corps to see God
as their source because the said time for God to favour them has come, urging
them to continually pray for the head(s) of the Corps at the Federal, State, to
the Local Government, because if the shepherd is taken away, the flocks may
scatter.
Prayers were made to the President and his exco, the
Governor and his exco. Prayers were
offered for peace among security agencies in the country and the final segment
of the session was used to pray for the National Commandant – Amb. Dr. Dickson
Akoh and his exco as well as the whole Peace Corps family in the 36 states of
the Federation.
In his reaction, the State Commandant, Pat. Aniefiok Effiong
thanked God for the successful passage of the bill and admonished the officers
to continue in their prayers to God for the President to ascent the bill in no
distant time, adding that it has been the culture of the Command since he
entered office on the 6th of August, 2014 to visit motherless babies homes
across the state.
He said he visited a
motherless babies home during his first anniversary, motherless babies Okon
Eket during his second year and since the highpoint of the event was to thank
God also for his third anniversary in office, with a visit to the Special
Children’s home in IBB way Uyo and by God’s grace, they are making plans to
visit the leprous home at Ekpene Obo by his next anniversary.
He charged his officers to emulate him and inculcate in
themselves the spirit of giving. “Sow so
that you can reap bountifully”, adding that they must always be in peace and
forgiving one another so that their blessings may not be hindered as a result
of the sin of malice and other vices.
Presenting the items to the Assistant Matron of the home,
Mrs. Arit Effiong Abia who received the gift on behalf of the Matron, Mrs.
Diana Henry who was unavoidably absent during the visit, the commandant
stressed that the prayers of the children in the orphanage has impacted on the
lives of Peace Corps Akwa Ibom State Command over the years and he believes
that the prayers from the children will make avail much for the Corps.
In her reaction, the Matron thanked the corps for heir
gesture, while the children prayed for God’s protection for the Corps so that
they can continue to extend their humanitarian services to the less privileged
and the privileged respectively.
At the command, the event was rounded off as the Commandant
