A first class Paramount ruler in Akwa Ibom state, HRM, Okuku Ime Udousoro Inyang has called on Ibibio, the fourth largest ethnic group in Nigeria to unite for the purpose of achieving progress and prosperity.
HRM Inyang, an Ibibio who is the Paramount Ruler of Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, stated this recently in a chat with newsmen at his palace.
The Monarch who was responding to questions on the existence of parallel groups, all claiming to be the Apex traditional institutions for Ibibio people lamented the situation, saying that it would not augur well for Ibibio people, hence the need for a common resolution.
Okuku Inyang stated that as a long standing traditional father in Ibibio land, nay Akwa Ibom state, he could speak authoritatively on the facts, problems and history of Ibibio and its people, as well as proffer solution towards a peaceful and prosperous Ibibio nation.
He said: “It is rather unfortunate that the situation has come to this extent. Yet it is not without a solution. The problem started when there were mere misunderstandings within the traditional rulership of Ibibio as a Nation. Most of us are quite aware of the history. We know the facts and we can as well proffer solution to the problems”.
While appreciating some Ibibio sons and daughters who have been working assiduously towards an amicable resolution of the misunderstanding, the Monarch reiterated his full support for such moves saying that it has started yielding dividends.
“I am aware that some illustrious sons and daughters of Ibibio have of late, been making moves toward resolving the misunderstanding.
I and my colleagues have given them our blessings and I can see that their efforts have started yielding fruits. We are looking at bringing all the Ibibio Traditional Rulers under a common Rulership. By the time we achieve this, which of course is achievable, we would be able to have a united Ibibio of progress and prosperity”, the Okuku Ibiono Ibom said.
Okuku Inyang also hinted of his full support to the forthcoming Ibibio National Summit, hoping that the success of the event shall mark a turn-around and an unprecedented rebirth for Ibibio as a people and as an ethnic group in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, preparation is in top gear by opinion leaders in Ibibio land to have the first ever Ibibio National Summit in the state. Our paper gathered that the event which is expected to have in attendance captains of industries, leaders in public and private sectors, political and traditional leaders and indeed, all sons and daughters of Ibibio extraction within the country and in the Diaspora, is aimed at discussing the common interest of Ibibio as a Nation.
